What it's like driving in VA

The Virginia State Police are total Nazis when it comes to speeding.
If they pull you over, you are getting a ticket.
Interesting, each time I was driving through the larger cities (criss crossed the state running expedite freight) people drove like mad, likely has a lot to do with traffic congestion.

Rural roads, yes one needs to be mindful po po all over.
Cities in VA are independent.

NOVA is a critter unto itself. It's full of soccer moms, immigrants, and people from all over the country, each with their own driving style on overly congested roads.

I had my pistol on my side and handed the trooper my license, permit, registration and insurance. I informed the trooper about my pistol and he said just don't reach for it and we will both go home with no issues. He ran my information, came back and told me to just slow down some and good night. Most but not all troopers are assholes.

I've lived in VA all my life. I've had as many as 6 tickets in one stop, yes, it was a State Trooper. I've been ticketed for as high as 133 MPH and had my license taken more times than I can count. The only thing that saved me growing up is that VA doesn't have a repeat offender law. Now I'm 50 and have only gotten one ticket in the last 20 years or so. Paying $2,600 a year for liability insurance on a 10 year old Ramcharger sucked.

I've found that this is the best way to get out of a ticket. I've had stupid tickets dropped because I was carrying.

I tell people that you won't be stopped unless you are going 10 over. so stay 7 over and set the cruise. They bumped reckless to 85.
Driving east of the Blue Ridge sucks. West is awesome.

A freind was just busted doing 110 in NOVA. He just sold his 21 Credit score (392) and bought a Subaru to afford the insurance. :lmao:

I don't know if I've just been lucky, but I've never had much problem with VA cops regarding traffic. In 20 years of driving I've only had 4 tickets and I've been pulled far more than that. Of the 4, two were in one stop.
  • Expired inspection. No nonsense black state trooper. Guy was respectful and polite, just all business. Whole stop was maybe a 5 minute ordeal. Just paid the fine.
  • Seatbelt and running a stop sign. Deserved the stop sign, blatantly ran it when it was 100% safe to do so. Unmarked car, didn't even try to argue. That state trooper was a complete fucking asshole and turned it into an hour of bullshit because I had a gun on me and he didn't like civilians having guns. Went to court for this one, told the judge the whole story, got the seatbelt tossed and just ate the points for the moving violation, only one I'd ever had so fuck it.
  • Motorcycle equipment violation. No helmet on a fucking scooter. Day a bunch of new traffic laws went into effect, tons of cops out all over the place. Went to court, told the judge what happened and that I had no idea about the new law and he tossed the ticket.
I've been pulled probably 15 times in VA and 99% of the time the county or local cop has been nothing but polite and respectful and just let me go with a warning without any bullshit hassle. But I also generally keep it about 7 over and avoid Northern VA like the plague. I'm also just not argumentative or anything. Simple short answers, be polite, have my shit ready when I'm pulled, lights on, radio off, etc.

Cops around here barely pull anyone anymore after all the defund the police shit and new woke policies they deal with. I drive through 3 different areas that used to be notorious for pulling people for anything and everything and I never see them pull anyone anymore. I do 85 up 95 to work every day and I'm still about the slowest on the interstate. Only cops I ever see with anyone pulled over anymore is state troopers and it's pretty damn rare these days.

I got pulled over in Laverne TN once speeding down a straight road in the industrial part of town and they smelled my clutch slipping. Thought I was smoking pot and asked me to get out of my truck and 3 more cops showed up. I walked away with no ticket. Sorry blow job cop was probably in middle school when this happened.

I got pulled over for passing a state police patrol car on 3 lanes highway in north Indiana near Chicagoland.

I think everyone behind him was so happy I did that. The whole highway was barren ahead of him. Nobody dared to pass him, except me

I passed him doing 60 in 55.

I’m deaf. Like, really deaf. I fucking kid you not. The cop looked like he was having a heart attack shouting at me, so loud I can hear him. Of course I can’t understand shit despite I heard him a little. He finally writes. Blah blah. Totally unprofessional.

Ticketed for speeding, 5 fucking mph over the limit and “reckless driving” due to driving too fast for condition. Mind you, it was in winter time, light snow and daylight but roads were heavily salted and temp in 40’s. Virtually no difference to driving in rain.

I wrote a letter to state of Indiana police hq or something about cop’s horrible behavior toward me as a deaf motorist.

Never got the mail summoning me to court or to pay fines or blah blah.

Whatever

Fail-

I may know of an instance where 3 paid on call firefighters responded to a structure fire call and there was a discussion of who had drank the least was going to drive before leaving the station...

No one had had 18 beers though. And nothing was hit. First due engine was out, so the ladder truck was next out.

I've driven in and through may states and I find they're all about the same. There are always areas that go against the norm and police that feel you need the riot act, but that's the exception rather than the rule.

I don’t believe I’ve ever been pulled over in Virginia, now that I’ve said that :homer:

The f650 had a 76mph limiter, also had the 10r tires replaced with 11r’s, I would keep in on the floor traffic allowing on 95 & 81
