So I happened to be up at just past midnight and went in the bathroom that is the light in this video. As I am pissing, my dog starts screaming like crazy. Like, gave me goosebumps crazy. Scared me to death because I do have opossums here and she barks at them but they rarely come into the yard off the fence. I know they are mean WHEN they decide to fight and my poor old girl wouldn't stand a chance. Anyways, you see the dog door flap move in the beginning. That is me throwing open the door and the air pressure pushing it as I ran across the house to get to the back slider to go rescue her but she came through the dog door while I was running.

SO, what do you think the animal is. I am not going to bias it by saying what I think. Curious what you do. I live in a residential neighborhood in central Ca. Completely urban. It's not an alien either :flipoff2:

I can't post the video but here is a google drive link. never mind, it embedded it

OK, so I thought it was a cat. Mostly because of that last lunge at my dog as she is coming through the doggie door. Just looked like a cat movement. I have TONS of cats around here. My neighbor rescues them so they are everywhere. If I walked out front there would be at least 3-4 laying in my driveway I would bet.

Like I said, I have possums that cross the fence top but rarely come into the yard that I know of. They go down the fence line to get to my neighbor's backyard because as I said, she rescues cats and she leave a ton of food outside for them...........and the opossums now too.

Been here about 25 years now and never seen a racoon or talked to a neighbor that told me they saw a racoon. I guess its possible but just odd to me. I have never ever heard of anyone having a racoon around ever in this town but again, it's possible I guess. I have never even seen a racoon with my own eyes I don't think other than TV or a video on YouTube or something

I wish I had better lighting over there last night. Or any at all. lol Ordered motion lights today for that side of the house.

How big is the dog for reference to the Chupacabra. depending on dog size cat or coon.

And do something with that camera so you see your shit and not that shitty reflection on the roof. without that you would have had a great image.

Coons are everywhere. Dont see em all that often though

You shoulda had a pew in yer other hand, cuz Rockey is a mofo when cornered, btw the scream you heard probably weren't no dog...

Definitely not a possum - they don't have bushy tails. The movement away seemed a little cat-like, but on the return it definitely looked more like a racoon. The part that is odd to me is the return chase. I've seen coons cornered by a dog and they are nasty, but I haven't seen one do a follow-up "chase" to go after whatever was cornering them. Their natural instinct is to flee, so unless there wasn't a way out I don't understand the behavior of the coon. We see coons fairly regularly, and whenever they see our dogs they flee to the nearest brush or climb a tree. If it was a coon, I would check your dog closely for any cuts/bites and make sure it is up to date on rabies shots. Coons can be rabid and when they are they can behave strangely.

They are nocturnal and fairly secretive, so it's not super odd to not be aware of them unless they are in your garbage, etc. I would think if you have possums then it's not crazy to think there are coons as well.

Looked like a fisher cat but I dont think theyre in your area.

Definitely raccoon

Concur with racoon. I saw rings on the tail when I step-framed the video. My first instinct was large feral cat or small mtn lion based on the agility but the bushy tail at the end gave it away.

And you're lucky he didn't follow your doggo in thru the door. You would have found your house re-decorated very quickly.

Trash pandas are nocturnal and usually very stealthy but they can live in any environment and can get quite large depending on the available scavengable food supply (restaurant dumpsters being choice). If you see one in the daylight, chances are something is wrong with it (as said previously)

Also as noted, getting one cornered by man or dog, and they come out swinging. A shovel and sturdy gloves is like the bare minimum if you have to face one down. A .22 is mo better.
