What's new

What is this the attacked my dog?

Thats a tiny trap:laughing:

Yeah, I've seen squirrels get out of those. And that fat fucker ain't going into that shoebox if I were to guess.

Driving it out into the country where? I would dispatch it on site as quietly as possible if you do happen to trap it. You may also want to check in with your local animal control/local PD on what is and what is not allowed. Racoons are not protected, but you sure don't want to get into trouble over it.

You might also talk to your neighbor about rescuing cats. If she is leaving food outside, they're just inviting more nonsense. Once animals know there is free food available, they tell their friends. It's funny how that works. Same goes for the two-legged kind.

Or, should we send you a bus of Haitians to clean it up? :stirthepot:

I've caught Coons, Opossums and Groundhogs in this type of trap.

Set it on the ground and open it up and stand back. They're not going to bust out of the trap. They're usually cautious about coming out. Once its out, it'll run off.

You better travel a long way away, 20 miles plus or they will return.

Did you notice the size of that trap?

Were it me I wasnt able to poke a couple cb shorts into it. I'd drop the trap into a garbage can of water and deal with it in a couple of hours

No, I didn't notice. They have a small, medium and large. I have the large one. I tried catching a fox thats hanging around with it but that's not going to happen.

I'm not sure mine is any larger and I've caught what I was trying to catch and some I wasn't...

The fox however is long enough the door hits it and it backs out with the fired chicken.... After 3 attempts, I just stopped feeding him. I catch it on the ring camera going up and down the driveway.

Oh I've thought about sitting and waiting to put a .22 short in it but honestly, its not bothering anything and it might be keeping the damn rabbits in check.

Yeah, its a sturdy cage...............I think at least. I will probably just end up catching my dog :homer:

If I catch it, I will drive it out to the country and let it go and hope it doesn't attack me on the way out. I'll be holding a small bat as I do. Mental plan is to put opening end over the edge of the tailgate and open it up, jump the fuck back and wait for it to head out and fall on the ground and hopefully run away.

Can they jump up into the back of the truck if it is so inclined? Never been around them and do not know anything about them.

Loaded up a bunch strawberries, watermelon and big marshmallows on the far end. We shall see.

Here it is
Video for us just in case things go haywire? :flipoff2:

Tuna works well, may catch a skunk though

I had a serious coon problem in north Ga. I tried those cheap havaheart traps and never had any luck catching shit, they can just reach right in and take the bait from outside.

I eneded up trapping over 20 with this style and mixture of small and large marshmallows. Best to get them warm and shove down thru the flap so they have to reach through and set the trap off.

I guess there a little more hostile where I live about the size of a cocker spaniel with tasmanian devil attitude. I should have known better trying to catch a wood chuck this one was quick and hanging near the road I took a few shoots but resorted to the trap I use for feral cats. The next morning I had a big coon in the cat trap and it was pissed. There's a lot of racoons in this area I'm about 1/4 mile from Coon lake my trash can has cargo straps to keep the lid tight.

Anyhow this prick of a coon mangled that cage and the ground around got trashed. I checked on him once a day for a few days maybe three or four and that freak still had not calmed down I figured the heat would wear it down. Another time I had one walk right in my garage after work I said hey it looked up at me turned around and slowly waddled out. I also have idiot neighbors that feed the feral cats I have more issues with them than the racoons.

I had one young small coon I had to wake up to get it to come out. It was snoozing and then looked up like "what's up". Once I got it coxed out of the trap, it took off.

Groundhogs and cats are usually really pissed.

I'd be hauling the cats off every day....

Didn't catch anything last night. At least I didn't catch my dog!! But she is afraid to go outside after dark now so that is probably why.

Hopefully I can get it in there and then I will probably repeat for a while since I would assume if there is one, there are many.

Everyone told me to use cat food to catch skunks, I guess ours didn’t get the memo 🤨. I think they have moved on though. The only activity on the camera in that area are rabbits and a feral cat.

After dark I’ll do a perimeter sweep if Elliot wants to go out after dark. We are very rural, I am very aware of what could be out there

Were you born at night or just last night?

Yes there are more than one. To repeat myself tell your neighbor to knock off the outdoor cat food. Cats don't need to be rescued; dogs do.

I have seen both cats and racoons fighting up in trees but I have never seen skeletons up in those trees so no need to call the FD (Oh, no! my baby is stuck up in the tree). They figure it out like ThunderDome.

But back to original problem, keep your trash cans secured, keep the doggo safe (ie walk together outside), and keep outside lights on. All cockroaches hate lights; again also applies to the two legged kind

Apparently last night if you think that I am going to tell my neighbor what they can and can't do, or that they would even listen. Just like I wouldn't want, or listen to them, if they told me what I can do.

Who the fuck do you think you are to tell people what animals should be rescued or what to do on their property?

Kindly fuck off with your opinions.

My sister in N CA had a neighbor she told to stop feeding the animals, when they didn't she called the Fish and Game on them. Fish and Game made them stop and relocated/euthanized a few bears. Neighbors were hand feeding black bears and had been been for years, they'd even been attacked and tore up by a bear. It had gotten to the point it was dangerous to walk outside. Dumb neighbors.:homer:

I am kindly fucking off with my opinions. No harm; I don't have the issue. There is a lot of good advice in this thread if you choose to listen.

However, there is a difference between experience and opinions. You get to form your own opinions after this mess; I'm looking forward to the recap of your experience.

Good luck!

One must get rid of the cats then the neighbor will not put out the cat food your welcome:idea:
Cats are easier to shoot than coons. Coons have that bandit mask and expressive face, and they pick things up with their little hands. Cats are varmints.

Kitty cats kill a bunch of tweety birds. And lizards.
And rabbits , squirrels, chipmunks, mice and rats. I have no issues with feral cats I have issues with people putting them on food stamps, Next thing the coons start showing up for dinner
