What's new

What is it like to be in a coma? My covid story.

You beat the odds, congrats  . I'm surprised after Rona before you got that sick, but it's a weird bug and a toss of the dice every time. I hope some folks here will now believe this shit is real, and hospitals at capacity isn't a joke or political in any way. We have had to ship folks from the local community as far as 8 hours away to get a bed and still have national guard helping. Our numbers dropping fast so hopefully this wave is about done, rehab space is pretty thin here.

Rest up and enjoy some re-hab. :grinpimp:

Wait, you got it more than once? The only people I know that have, also have cancer and have no immune system.
I've had it twice, very healthy 42 yo, pretty much my whole group has tested positive twice. About a year apart. Feeling sick again after a Jamaica trip, hoping this isn't my turn for a bad one.

OP, holy shit man, that's crazy and glad you pulled through. Nuts.

Way to fight though that cray ordeal! Hopw you heal up quick the rest of the way and get out of there. Thanks for sharing, very interesting.

My sons friends family have had it 3 times, the wife works at a school, and the daughter is in grade school. All young and healthy, I’m guessing the school has a lot of it.

Were you unable to breathe when they wanted to put you on a vent? I find it strange that you're having a conversation about it with the doc. I figured those patients had already blacked out from low O2.
I was able to breathe, but barely. My O2 saturation would not rise above 75%, though, and that was with a BIPAP on the maximum safe setting. Any higher would have damaged or ruptured my lungs.

I have heard that people that got a really light case of Delta can get it again. But Omi is the end of the road. HMMM

Why would they not put you on O2 if you were that low? A cpap will not fix that. WTF? Anything below 88 or so and I will randomly blackout if I try and walk around. 75 is nuts.

Damn....glad you came out of all that and are on the road to recovery. Take care and take time.

It wasn't technically a cpap, but it was very similar. It was forcing oxygen in every time I would breathe in, and allowing me to breathe out naturally.

EDIT: It was a BIPAP, also known as a non-invasive ventilator

WOW. So you are one strong and resilient MF. This is seriously how they have been killing people with the vid. Glad you make it. I wish that the doc would learn and do better. And not follow protocol that does not work.

I believe it is my overly active workaholic lifestyle that saved me more than anything. I don't quit, and I will do anything that I put my mind to. I am one stubborn SOB. I walked into the ER at 6-5, 248. I now only weigh 191 lb.

Curious how do you test your blood 02? I have a fancy watch that does but I don’t really trust it. I’m often around 2 miles above sea level and almost never below 8,000’ so I see readings in 82-98% daily and don’t really feel any difference.

Obligatory hospital shot from before the coma

damn. Did your blood pressure go down? I remember it was pretty high, a few people speculated you kicked the bucket during the absence.

No, that's been a hindrance in my recovery. Without medications, my blood pressure is still through the roof. With the amount of medications it takes to put me at a normal blood pressure, it tanks every time I sit up or stand up and I get dizzy and pass out. We are finding a happy medium between moderately high blood pressure in the 140s over 90s that is not ideal, but allows me to do my physical therapy.
When you first woke up did you check if your nurses and doc were the same as in your dream?
As stated in the original story, the nurses in my dream were all medics that I had served with in Iraq and Germany.

I figure that's what kept me going after my recent stay in the hospital, I just won't quit.

Get well soon dude, you will be back in that truck before you know it.

so you never even stayed in the Iowa hospital? 100% dream, very cool you have those details..

Awesome to hear you're still in the land of the living.

Also, the COVD diet with hospital stay path is not the fun way to lose weight :flipoff2:

We'll be praying for you - and sending happy thoughts :smokin:

TL/DR. Cliffs?

But really, glad you're here man, and I mean that. Hit me up if I can help in any way.
