Welding chain to master lock

I thought you were talking about the one that stoner bob posted. I r dum.
Ok so you and Steve O are both saying that there will be no issue welding a regular steel chain link to a boron carbide hardened shackle? Is that what you two homos are saying?:flipoff2:

If so....go ahead and show me/us. Because that was what my question was about. What's the point in welding a link to that hardened steel shackle if it just becomes brittle and can easily break off? Obviously I have no experience with that bc I asked the question but now this is just getting annoying.

Cartercraft spoke up and said the hardened shackle would become junk welding to it. That was my concern. So my next option was just welding to the regular STEEL BODY of the lock.

So go ahead steveO and weld a link of chain to the carbide boron hardened shackle and show me it doesn't break off. I'll buy you and Jeff 2 Smirnoff ices for being cold ass mofos

Either way there's 2 Smirnoff ices on the line for Steve O. With the same lock....not just any lock. The same lock.

Only thing I know about boron carbide is it sounds scientific and my saw has carbide teeth

what does boron rhyme with?
Dude I posted this in the newb section, at this point fuck off or post your welded lock. I've taken care of this deal for my buddy, handed it off to him and drank 2 beers with him over it.

What do you want me to say??? I over thought a simple project?? Ok I did. Did a hardened shackle throw me for a loop? Yea.

I've tig'd sheet metal aluminum, I've stick welded shitty cast iron and I've pushed plenty of wire through a mig gun over 25 years. Am I an expert by any means, hell fuckin no. I'm a roofer that wrenches and does farm fab.

I don't know how to put it anymore, but put up or shut up. Youre about as bad ass as arse. My offer still stands for two Smirnoff ices as that seems like what you would drink.

First off, didn't realize this was the newb section, thought it was GCC, where my shit talking would have been appropriate. I honestly apologize, but I'm not gonna HGPD.

I am saying that I bet there's not going to be an issue. I'd bet you lunch that it will weld just fine and you can smash it with a sledgehammer and it'll be fine. It will be slightly weaker, but it doesn't matter because there's no load on the chain and if someone wants in, they'll just cut the lock with an angle grinder anyway.

It's all a moot point as you've said, you welder'd it and it's done.

Oh relax.

I'll bring a lock to the shop tomorrow and weld on it just to see wtf.

Spray the guts of the lock full of antispatter and weld it up.

I'd tell these pricks to fuck off, you already welded and posted up with humility.

I went on a 2 week bender because of these guys:flipoff2:. Naw it's all good.

Some people just trying to get a rise, some people with legitimate advice/real world experience, and then there's Steve and arse. Also I've noticed varying levels of reading comprehension and unsolicited advice.

I was just concerned with the boron carbide hardened shackle and what my options would be. Like some said it could merely be a coating and nothing more than marketing. Or if could be totally hardened. Its only a $30 lock but if I can save my homie $30 bucks...then I'm gonna save the mofo $30. So that's why I asked, before welding. (I was at home after work, honestly didn't think I'd get so many replies).

True to irate form I got replies that my buddy should move, that people 2000 miles away garbage service doesn't operate like my buddies, and then some legit advice from you and a few others.

There's really no way to avoid it, if you post up on irate you just gotta be ready and have some tequila close by!!
