2013 JKUR.

Aftermarket radio

It always "works" but sometimes it doesnt put sound out through the speakers. You can do all functions (scroll through XM, radio ect)

If the doors are off, the chances of it putting sound out are greatly reduced.

To get it to work, you turn the Jeep off open the door, close and try again. Usually that works first try. If it works, 90% of the time you hear a "pop" through the speakers when It turns on. seems to have better luck working if I turn to the last click before starting and wait for a "pop". That trick does not work with the doors off.

It wont keep time. You set it and it will be fine for maybe a day or so, check it later and its way off by hours and minutes.

Power windows, work most times, but get stuck in a weird cycle lately where they go down fine, but wont go up.

Totally dead switch, but if you turn the Jeep off a while and turn it on, they go up between 1/4 to one inch, then stop working again.

Occasionally the switch cluster for the windows will audibly "buzz" when you try to use it and the windows are not working, but not always and not lately.
WTF.

Unsure if they are related issues or seperate Jeep bullshit.

The windows started their issues within the last few weeks, the radio has been since it was put in six months or so ago. The Jeep had a literall, no-name chinese head unit that got replaced when I bought it because it wouldnt keep time either. It was constantly hours off, just like the new one.

You do a history report on it before you bought it? Could it have been in a flood or an accident?

The only odd thing our JKUR does sometimes that's radio related, is turn itself off. Like get back in the jeep after it sitting for hours or overnight and it's off with just the clock showing on the display. Doesn't happen often but it does happen. Clock always holds the correct time though, and it's a factory radio/nav unit.

carfax is clean. I did clean the batt terminals and did cleared the system (hold neg and pos cables together) for a first diag. lasted two days before it was back to its old schenanigins.

Would that be heat related?

my daughters stock nav radio would do that and seemed to be heat related

Why the fuck do people replace stock radios in new vehicles?
I don't get it either..... All the new vehicles I've been in have killer factory radios. Doesn't anyone remember the shitty factory radios of the 70s, 80s and 90s? These new vechicle factory radios are light-years ahead of that and really don't need to be replaced IMO.

Read about someone having similar issues. but not the same.

Their issue was a rubbed line under the center console, ebrake mount.

Sure enough. there is a super sharp bracket there. It had nearly cut through a heavy black wire.

Repaired that, seems to work now.

Radio....still same ole crap.

cut was rubbing the side with the cheezy plastic tape that was also rubbed through.

I might be wrong on this... I would suspect a hacked (miswired) install of the adapter harness. I think they use some kind of "Data Link" thingy. :stirthepot:

Are you sure that the stereo isn't a hack install?

Does it have an aftermarket alarm system?
Because the radios in that era dodge/jeep whatever suck dick, almost no features in 2013 and I have seen numerous ones fail in our work vans

Back to the op
Sounds like a voltage issue or failure in the bcm or canbus
Start looking for water damage or leaking by control modules
Have you read any of the obd2 codes?the ses doesnt have to be on for there to be trouble codes

No trouble codes except I used to get a 02 bank 2 (havent had it in a long time) Recently airbag would go on and off (have a recall notice, unsure if its why) and TPMs occasionally on only one tire. Im guessing the new tires sensors dont play nice.

last month I had a cam sensor code replaced that and all seems well.

Shes named Persnickety for a reason at this point.

I was at work and threw my 0bd2 sensor on my work truck last week. My co-emoloyee saw and said "you have one of those?" I said I always carry it, because of my damn Jeep

The air bag recall is for the pass side airbag, apparently the airbag may not go off.

Never thought of that but you may be onto something. It just got hot here so I'll have to start paying attention.
The uconnect system (junk) in my 16 Ram sometimes acts weird when it is hot outside. It will take a few minutes of driving for it to finally boot up. So far, it has always come through.

Bummer. I was hoping it would fix it.

When I bought it, it would turn on with a ding, irregularly. The dealer "fixed" it Then it wouldnt for a while. It came back to doing that last month, now it is solid on.

Unless the light in the dash also means the pass side could be at fault?

Because they still have shit for sound quality and power.

The gm Bose systems are halfway there with the time alignment and eq built into the amp that are tuned to the cabin, but they still only put out about 25w of power.

I'm running 150w on the front speakers, and 500w on the sub. Aftermarket head unit and sound processor to tune the time alignment and eq. Sounds far better than stock paper speakers and 15w of power from the pretty touchscreen.:flipoff2:

I'm going to guess all the radio issues are from a fucked up install. Sounds like they never got a constant power to the radio and only have switched power. Or they messed up the programming on the maestro if they used one.

As to why would you replace a factory radio, my 2009 started with the screen delaminating, then it would change and reprogram stations when you hit a bump going down the road, then the hard drive was not able to be accessed anymore, then it only had FM. Finally I said fuck it and put another head unit in it. It has also since quit so I guess it’s time to grab another junk pile and try it again

The radio on JK's (and probably a lot of other vehicles) are tied into other systems through the Canbus. Be it the TIPM on a JK or the BCM on other vehicles. The radio on a JK can put the vehicle in limp mode. There were many horror stories on the old JKO site.

I don't understand it, don't care to understand it, I just think it's stupid. It's one of the many reasons I've ripped out every single inch of factory wiring and will be wiring my rig like a hotrod.

So tempting....

I was strongly considering converting to manual windows as well.

That's where this guy comes in, if you want to keep the rest of the system intact....
