Weekend Wheeling

No **** I never knew diff covers, oil pans and fuel tank straps rust out until I read a few of the east coaster folks threads:laughing:
Its awful and I'm over it. I actually am more keen to looking for rust and rot than worry about mileage. 300k miles? mmk, so what. what that's frame look like?

I'll still look around up here, but I am pretty set on riding/driving far out of the salt belt to look for something.

Dad's on his third oil pan in his 04 F250. Has something like 70k miles. Rots right through.

All of my last vehicles I’ve had to drive 2-6 hours for and had one shipped from Oregon.

It’s worth bypassing the rotted out turds in the rust belt.

Something I am going to look more into. The traveling bit sounds great and would be great for my mental health, but getting something shipped seems pretty accessible these days as well. What would concern me are pics taken a vehicle two years before it was left to rot out back behind the corn field.

Things don’r rust out west. Midwest they do.

I had like 40 photos, 12 videos, and a place with a good reputation ship my truck. I should’ve flown out and checked it in person, but honestly I was prepared to rebuild the engine if needed.

Maybe I missed it, but how big is the family?

I would probably pick a rubicon TJ. Might be a little higher than your budget but already comes with a 4:1 transfercase, Dana 44s, and lockers.
And reliable inline 6 with a decent transmission.

solid rig that will get your family anywhere you want to go, back seat is good for up to a 14year old or so.

If I was in your position I would get this and spend the time with the family having fun.

Three of us. YJ/TJ is near top of the list. Rubicon takes quite a step forwards. Really just 33s on some backroads is all I would want now.

Xterra/Frontiers are cheap especially when compared to 4Runners/Tacomas. ***an suspension bolts in for easy and cheap-ish IFS upgrade path. Hell the VK drops right in too if you wanted some more giddy up.
