Anyone have any good ideas or suggest any particular transformers and such that would run a belview/8274 (4-600a @ 12v) from 120/220 single phz?

I understand basic transformer power conversion give/take power trade but cant find any thing beyond led power packs through gugle

Volts x Amps = Watts.
Watts / Volts = Amps.

12V x 600A = 7200 W

7200W / 120V = 60A

7200W / 240V = 30A

What are you trying to do?

My guess is plug a 12 volt winch into the wall in a shop to power a garage or something.

In because I’m curious myself.

Edit: my Google fu says you can’t do that, and to plug the winch to a battery then trickle charge the battery when not using the winch.

Yep, or use a large battery charger if you plan on extended winching.

Im trying to make a decision do i build a bumper now to mount my winch or build a small floor bracket and run it from the shop.

Situation is as follows.

Trucks dead, wont run, need to get up a bit of a hill of a driveway. I need to make a floor bracket to hook something to to pull it up. I have a spare bellview thats afaik is ready to rock and a good 12k intended for the truck and the metal to build the bumper.

I was hoping there was something i wasnt thinking of to power it and not mind a battery.

I also have other means to get it up but they are work aswell.

The power conversion is what i figured as well being way out of line with what was capable.

How far you need the truck pulled to the shop? How heavy is it?

house power is AC, the winch is DC, so it’s not a simple volt step down transformer and will be pricey for one strong enough for the winch.

HF have a 1500lbs 120v winch for like $150
The hill is really steep and/or the truck is really heavy?

240vac motor swap on the winch?

The guy I sold my jeep to had a portable winch.

It looked like this single cylinder gas engine operated.

Sell the 8274 and buy a cheap 120v tugger and you'll have a few hundred bucks left over for booze and blow.

Buddy of mine does something similar.
He's a retired mechanic, who now works as a longshoreman. Since he still likes working on cars, he's got a nice little shop out back. Downside is that it's uphill into the shop, so all the 'dead' turds that need rolled into the shop have to go uphill. So he set up an old 8274 on the back wall, anchored to the floor. Simply runs a nice old deep cycle battery, connected to a trickle charger. So far that battery has lasted 6 years. Probably winches cars weekly.

Welding machine?

Battery and charger seems like the best bet, especially since both are useful beyond the wierd project.

Would an old school ~200a jump start box clicked on while wincing be the best bet? It will drain the battery, but maybe not super fast. The winch should only draw 600a if it's really pulling hard, which takes a lot with an 8274.

A jump box would work fine, rolling loads don't take a lot of power.

I didnt. A buddy that worked the 4x4 shop before me had it.

I dont think its oe either as ive never seen another and ive seen hundreds of both.

Only way to roll, build a cradle with handles and put Anderson connectors on it

Get a deep cycle or a $55 Wal-Mart group 65 and put Anderson connectors on it

Cut up a scrap truck hitch and anchor it in the shop, occasionally put a charge on the battery

I F'n love my winch on a cradle, slam it in the receiver of any pickup, and dump the battery right behind it in the bumper step

Makes just about every truck into a recovery rig

I have a 9k HF that I want to do that with. I plan to have a receiver on the trailer, and make a riser for my B&W gooseneck hitch. I figured it might come in handy having the extra height.

Then again, my new to me, tilt trailer has a winch, so I may never get around to it

Here ya go, only 1,100

Would one of the $20 HF fence pullers work? Guess the garage still needs an anchor point.

If the garage in question has a concrete floor just drill a 1 inch hole into the floor and there is your anchor point.

A 1/2" wedge bolt 3+" deep in the slab is orders of magnitude more than enough.
A 3/4" bolt is more than double the 1/2"

I was thinking of using drop in anchors and eye bolts. Then he can attach the hook straight to that or maybe even put a snatch block there and use a different vehicle's winch to pull the truck in.

I have not gotten pics because i have been a complete lazy fuck.

But i got a free sqrft of 5/8 plate that already had 4 1" holes in the corners. So 3/4" hammer pin/wedge anchor it is. I have some spare weld on clevis's. I just didnt feel like doing a damn thing this weekend though.

Just so we're clear, a wedge bolt is like this, I don't know "pin" lock bolt strengths.

Sorta.

Same basic bolt and washer idea but it has a taperd hole down the center, the bottom half are slit longways and once its down you hammer the pecker pin in and it flares the bottom out. Kind of like a pop rivot.

"Strike" anchor seems the term.

I dealt with this myself.

For a while I bought inop cars and had to get them into my shop.

I tried one of the HF 100 volt lifting winches, it would not pull a car in.

What I ended up with is just screwing a trailer floor "D" plate to the concrete and then just using a come-a-long to pull the cars in.

Yes it took a bit of time (like 5 mins per car) but wasn't hard and I pulled in over a dozen of cars like that.

My shop is higher than the driveway so ti was all up hill as well.
