Towing with a 1/2 ton truck

Buddy of mine has a 6.6 gas and loves it.

Towed his enclosed with a buggy in it from NC to KOH and it did great.

One of my complaints about my current Chevy 1500 is that the springs are way too soft for its tow rating. It squats pretty bad pulling a 20’ car hauler with ford tractor and 2 row planter.

I have a Chevy 1500 crew cab with 6.2. Agree on it squatting quite a bit. I've only towed locally, but pulled a SXS or my 4000# buggy on my 16' trailer as well as other random crap. No issues with it pulling, but I did end up flipping my trailer ball. I think my hitch is a 2" drop, but now run as a 2" rise to keep the trailer tongue level.

I put a straight mount on mine. Seems to do ok. Airbags or springs from the max tow package would do better.

That's the biggest crutch of the 1/2t, especially when you get up higher in the towing capacity.

If I were to buy a 1/2t just for towing, I'd definitely add air bags.

Triball works great for our F150

I also have an adjustable curt that was not very expensive for how heavy-duty and nice it is.
I looked at the Curt hitch, but was in a pinch and TSC had the triball hitch. Like most people, I have several different sizes and drops of hitches floating around for different vehicles I’ve owned.
