I turned 13 in 1980. The 80's were and awesome time to be a teenager. Great music. People didn't have their feelings on their sleeve. A fight usually ended with nothing more than a black eye or busted nose/lip which usually happened by someone sticking their nose where it didn't belong. No one batted an eye for having a rifle in the back window of your truck. If you seen a kid walking down the road with a .22 rifle, they were going squirrel hunting. No need to panic and call the cops.

60s/70's and even the 50s cars/trucks were quite plentiful and fairly cheap.

Wanted or needed a job? Plenty to go around.

I turned 9 in 1980. Can confirm everything in this post.

I will add to the fight part that it was also fairly common for boys to end up becoming good friends after having fought each other.

SIngle car garage with the door shut. Drunk off my ass, trying to seat the bead on a dirtbike tire. I dunno how much psi a HD tube can take but I went past that point.
