Golf legend Tiger Woods was seriously injuredTuesday in a one-car accident that called for a "jaws of life" rescue in Southern California, authorities said.

Woods' vehicle was going north on Hawthorne Boulevard at Blackhorse road, on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes, when it crashed and sustained "major damage," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
Tiger Woods agent: ‘Currently in surgery’ following car crash

Woods was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, the statement said.

"Mr. Woods was extracted from the wreck with the 'jaws of life,'" the sheriff added.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, the statement said. Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, told NBC News on Tuesday afternoon that Woods was in surgery for multiple leg injuries.

"We have been made aware of Tiger Woods' car accident today," according to statement from the PGA.

"We are awaiting further information when he comes out of surgery. On behalf of the PGA TOUR and our players, Tiger is in our prayers and will have our full support as he recovers."

Woods famously crashed his car just a few days after Thanksgiving 2009 in Florida. The accident inadvertently revealed a bitter marital dispute between he and then-wife Elin Nordegren. A host of women then came forward to admit to having extra-marital affairs with the famed golfer.

Woods hasn't played in a tournament this year and is recovering from his fifth back surgery he underwent in December.

The 45-year-old golfer, who is based in Jupiter, Florida, was in Southern California this weekend for the Genesis Invitational, which benefits his foundation.

An HBO documentary last month chronicled Woods' meteoric rise and public shaming in 2009 and 2010.

Even through he's still active, Woods is already considered one of the greatest golfers in the sport's history.

His 82 tournament wins is tied for most in a career with "Slammin' Sammy" Snead. Woods' 15 majors is second only to Jack Nicklaus.

Woods' last tournament title was at the 2019 Zozo Championship in Japan. His most recent major victory was at the 2019 Masters.

Eh, aren't the jaws of life SOP anyways?

Glad no innocent people were hurt by his selfish and careless speeding. Drunk/drugged as well?

Over/under it'll cost more to replace the vegetation than the car? I mean we aren't talking about iowa here.

never a fan of eldrick. a friend of mine played college golf with him and said he was a tremendous pos. he is a tremendous pos.

Reporting compound fractures in the legs. He's done as a pro golfer and should be pleased to be able to walk again.

They'll try and pull the data from the vehicle computer, it will have info on speed, braking, steering angle, etc.. If I was his agent I'd be all up in his lawyers grill to stop them from accessing it.

Car came to rest on the drivers door, so they cut out the windshield and extracted him thata way.

Not a car guy...what kind of SUV is it? What is the advertisement on the side? No skid marks...wondering if it were a loaner car that he was not used to? He was filming tv shows all weekend. 7:00 am hope he wasn’t impaired.

Stickers look to be Genesis Open ones... I thought it was a range rover or something but did not get a good look at the quick news clip

People haul ass on that section of Hawthorne. I can definitely see how it could bite you if you're going the standard Palos Verde pace through there AND drunk/high.

The debris field was on the local news. It looked to be an eighth of a mile long from the beginning of where he crossed the center divider to where the truck ended up. He was moving.
