What's new

Thinking about buying a boat

Why would I replace an outboard that as fully rebuilt (engine and lower) in 2022?
New outboards are night and day different in performance compared to old. Not saying to change it right away but old outboards are finicky.

FYI this is all you need to make sure it runs. A sea trial is always a good idea, but if it starts right up after sitting all winter you probably don't need one. Well, maybe a good idea to verify it floats. :flipoff2:

Also, always make sure the drain plug is in before launching it.

Initial post, didnt winterize it properly.

And OP, fucking pics dude!

In addition, there is a live well with pump, the tires are brand new, it could use a Bearing Buddy cap, it has a new LED light kit on the trailer with permanent trailer registration, and it has a second fuel tank.

Do it. If it gets you and your boy out fishing together even a handful of times it's worth it.

The 40 hp motors are decent, the lower units are pretty fragile and hard to find used. They bring a premium. The power trim system for tgat year is something else that brings a lot of money. If the powerhead blew tomorrow( they are known for hanging rods out the blick) you cpuld probably recoup have you're investment in motor parts. Older 2 stroke tiller handle engines with power trim are in high demand for duck hunters and flats guys. If you decide to repower, you cpuld recoup a fair amount on that engine. BTW, a new 40 hp will run you around $6000

Buy it Lund is a good boat $2500 bux is not alot of money. You can always sell it and recoup most or all of your money. But running it on the hose or a bucket is not the same as putting a real load on it.

That looks like a great deal, especially if the trailer has most of its life left. If the motor runs, it is probably worth 1500. Boat and trailer in good shape worth at least 2. Package is only 30 years old and will zip right along with a 40. I gave 1250 for a 16' Lund of 70s vintage, no motor, galvanized trailer in good shape. Gave that amount again for a 2004 Mercury 25 2 stroke. And I'm happy with my deals. I could sell that motor any day for what I gave for it. Lund are considered the nicest aluminum v hulls, and that one is in good shape. I'll buy it if you don't.

#1 rule of retiring early:

RESIST THE URGE TO BUY A BOAT

our family has that same boat, should float in about 2" of water
we have been on many a fun adventures just heading up creeks around here

It didn't, but since it was torn apart, might as well re-seal everything, and once down that rabbit hole, just do it all.
just keep in mind, peoples ideas about being rebuilt, vary from on mechanic to another. Probably just a re-ring and reseal. If tehboat has sat for more than a couple months, plan on going thru the fuel system and carbs

I know. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just disassembly, inspection, and reassembly with new gaskets and seals.

As for the fuel system, that's always a given. I sniffed the fuel tanks and it actually smelled good. He said he only put in the corn-free premium and added stabilizer, so that's a plus.
