Aha! Found who Netflix has been getting all their scifi/space show scripts from!

I’d give them a raise in exchange for them and their immediate families as well as all staff having no investments. Everything is frozen until 2 years after they leave Congress.

Children wanting to transition ‘can ignore parents’, says Civil Service diversity ambassador

AWhitehall diversity ambassador told civil servants working in schools that trans children’s demands for puberty blockers should take precedence over their “parents’ will”.

Saorsa-Amatheia Tweedale, a transwoman civil servant in the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), told colleagues that children who want to transition have the right to ignore their parents’ wishes and compared taking puberty blockers to taking the contraceptive pill.

The official also claimed that the belief that sex is binary is not “the modern scientific view” and that “there are as many genders as there are individuals because we’re all unique individuals”.

Ms Tweedale, who acts as the DWP’s National Diversity Ambassador on trans issues and is the co-chair of the cross-Civil Service LBGT+ network, gave an online lecture to DWP civil servants on 26 October 2023.

The talk, which focussed on gender identity and pronouns, was given to the National Group of Support for Schools Advisers, a group of officials in DWP who offer career advice in schools.

The diversity ambassador told colleagues: “What really gets me is when you’re challenging a trans child’s knowledge of who they are and say that parents’ will take precedence. That poses a big danger to women and girls because it challenges Gillick competency.

“If a child isn’t old enough to know the consequences of their medication treatment because they’re trans, then how does a girl understand the consequences of taking the pill, which it [sic] was the basis of Gillick competence or indeed needing an abortion etc?”

“Gillick competence, it’s very clear, if a child is old enough to understand the consequences of the medication and treatment they are asking for, their will takes precedence over that of the parent. And that applies whether you are trans seeking puberty blockers, or whether you are a girl seeking to take the pill. And when you are challenging the right of trans children, that undermines the right to Gillick competency.”

The concept of Gillick competence originates with a legal case from 1986 in which the right of children under 16 to have medical treatment without parental consent was affirmed if the child “had sufficient maturity and intelligence to understand the nature and implications of that treatment”.

White House staff 'relocated' after pro-Palestinian rioters damage anti-scale fencing, hurl objects at cops

Anti-Israel protesters and rioters gathered outside the White House on Saturday night, with some demonstrators damaging security fencing and hurling objects at police.

The demonstrators were heard chanting "Ceasefire Now" and "Free, Free Palestine," with many waving Palestinian flags. "Yemen, Yemen make us proud / Turn another ship around," was also recited at the demonstration, hours after strikes were launched against the Houthis in Yemen.

I think the baking company needs to change it's name. It evokes white colonialism, which makes me feel unsafe.

Baking Company Hosts Competition Barring White Participants

King Arthur Baking, a Vermont-based company, faced criticism for hosting a baking competition that excluded white contestants, aiming to support People of Color entrepreneurs.

The contest, called the Baking Pitchfest 2024, offered financial support, brand exposure, and mentorship to winners, with specific categories limited to “person of color led” businesses.

The use of the term “POC” was defined by the company to include various racial and ethnic groups.

DEI over safety for the FAA
Good if it accelerates thier demise, the FAA has held back civil aircraft technology by at least 50yrs. The 737max debacle is mostly due to Boeing trying to polish a 60yr old turd due to the regulatory cost hurdle and hoops your have to jump through to design a clean sheet aircraft.

Blame Southwest Airlines for trying to maintain a single type fleet. The 757 is a much better plane but it was stopped because SWA wanted a 737 that acts like a 757.

So SWA has so many new plane orders that it so totally dominated that market that the world's largest commercial aircraft mfgr is beholden to them. I call tilt.

John Cusack Feels ‘We Have Nazis Running for Office’ in the United States

John Cusack is sharing his thoughts on the state of the elections in the US, following reports of a hate crime in Philadelphia.

On Monday, the High Fidelity star took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on reports of vandalism at the Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza in Philadelphia.

"That's f---ing terrible — [too] bad we have Nazis running for office [in the] US," Cusack wrote. "The ghouls feel like they can come out."

Cusack quoted a post from the Jerusalem Post, reporting that a large swastika had been painted on the side of the Plaza.

According to the outlet, police are still investigating the incident.

Cusack has previously spoken out against many US candidates and officials, former President Donald Trump in particular.

Back in September, he wrote that liberals "have played a major part in creating the precise conditions for fascism to flourish," in response to reports that a group of democrats filed court documents to stop Congress from passing a potential wealth tax on the one percent.

"This is what liberals/neoliberals have never understood — or taken responsibility for ... Obama corporatist democrats are to the right of Richard Nixon on domestic policy," the actor wrote on X at the time.

As early as 2020, the Say Anything alum also shared that he would no longer speak to the people in his life who aren't "aggressively anti-Trump."

"I'm sure you’ve all been through it with some family co workers — or friends," he wrote, also on X. "Those who cannot see or choose not to see what [Trump] is, we are done talking — permanently."
