What's new

The first day of the rest of my life

Stingray, do you have an rv? If you do you better come spend a couple of weeks in quartzite with us the end of January. It’s an absolute shit show. If you’re into it there’s even a cloths optional area.:lmao: Nothing like a bunch of naked old bastards playing corn hole to get a great laugh. Enjoy your retirement and hit me up if you’re wanting to wheel sometime. I’ll see if my retirement schedule will allow it. I’m on flat out go every day. :smokin:

Congratulations.

Even the smallest project will take 4-5 times longer than when you were working. It's because you have the time to take lots of breaks, ponder your next move and pay more attention to detail. For me, it's also because when I start a new project, I end up redoing related projects along the way because I have nothing better to do.

My favorite is when the wife requests something. I will spend days or weeks slowly doing her bidding to near perfection, only to hear her critique it a few weeks later.

Thrilled for you. Congratulations!

Seems like a fantasy for me still, but I'm trying hard to prepare. Still 10+ years away.
Old news, but get your finances in order, new cars bought and paid for, major house repairs done, stuff like that, my primary cars are reasonably new, in good repair and paid for, last year I had a new roof put on both house and garage, after that we had the house painted,
We still have a house payment but impound account is under 1K.

I pulled the trigger April 25th. 9.5 years with the last company and had planned on working till 65 or when the big chip plant here was built out, whichever came first. But when my company cut my commission after turning in a record year, I didn't want to work for a company that treats their employees that way especially when the owner is buying airports and has the largest private boat in AK, and commutes to work in a EuroCopter. Fuck him, he ded now, and I can see the two sons realizing, "How much is this company worth now?", and selling that fucker to a private equity firm. Oh well, made a bunch of money through them, and put away a bunch to add to what I had from previous 401k's, and the sale of the Vegas house. Still have a payment on the current house, but the loan is below $150k and we'll net a grip of cash when we sell, so will buy cash the forever home...that's the plan anyway.

Oh, and have already have a retirement job. :grinpimp:

Like others have said, congratulations! Some people need their job to give them purpose, others, not so much. May you enjoy your self in the latter category!

Me- if I could retire tomorrow, I've got plenty of things to keep me interested for the rest of my life. Unfortunately according to the chart hanging up next to my desk here at work, I've got another 17-18 years to go.

So, what general area are you looking at for your forever home? I take it you want to get away from the Phoenix metro?

I played the back and forth with Job/ life satisfaction, I don't dig ditches but it's long hrs, I had an injury and had shoulder surgery, so during that time the wife and I took a long look, money was good, health is good, 62 yrs old is young enough to still be active and have good quality of life,

My mothers situation has changed things somewhat but I have brothers to spread the burden over.

I liked my job and took pride in my work and skill, that will be an adjustment, I had great guys I worked with and felt I still added value, That will be a challenge.

Thanks

Congrats on making it to this point. Enjoy it. I'm thinking I'm 12 years out short of life changing or ending event.

I've heard of Quartzite, don't they do a huge flee market or some shit?
But if you think luring me in with old naked people your mistaken, I can look in the mirror for that:lmao:.

Thanks for the offer and an RV of some sort is in the loose plans, Not sure where we are headed on that, I'd like something on the line of a toter, Front engine truck chassis, even an older super C style, wife like the looks of a traditional diesel pusher, The ones I've driven seem to wander more that a truck. Towing a 5500# crawler on a trailer is also part of the equation.

But we will come to terms.
Also a boat and a mobile home in Parker is on the chopping block as far as downsizing.

Parker is just up the road from quartzite. They have a huge rv show the first week of February. Lots of venders at Tyson well’s across the street and lots of other junk sellers scattered around the town. My wife loves old rusty farm junk. Or place is covered in her rusty treasures. But that’s what staying married for 46 years takes. She has her valuable junk and I have a yard full of crawlers and equipment she puts up with.😜

Seems like the old ladies in the park would always make a run to Quartzite, And that makes sense, First week in Feb would be my birthday weekend, weather is usually great for a crawling trip, great trails around there.

23 mos, 21 days, 23 hours, 15 minutes to go.. not that I’m counting or anything.

I’ll be just over 60 with 10 years into my current gig.. that’s the magic number for our retirement health coverage.

I’m not gonna work till I die.. and I’ll be pissed if i die before I retire.

Congratulations, and fuck you! :flipoff2:

A year or two before he retired, my old manager started carrying around a fancy leather binder. When I first started at my job, he was in Hawaiian shirts buttoned one button lower than the average person and a gold chain underneath. Then we started getting more people and he had to go to fancy meetings with people in suits so he started wearing suits too. So when he started carrying around this fancy leather binder, I thought it was the natural evolution of that... except I never saw him open it.

One day I finally asked him what was in the binder. He was glad I asked and promptly opened that sucker up to show me his retirement plans- house on the Lake of the Ozarks, pontoon boat he was going to buy, how many days he had left, all the time off he had accrued to bail early, etc. Cracked me up. He carried that puppy around with him until the day he retired.

Now he sends me facebook messages from his pontoon boat on the lake of the ozarks.

Sandy, that’s funny as hell. I sent pics of the wife and I’s feet propped up in out boat fishing for Kokanee at 7:00 in the morning on a mountain lake to the guys I used to work with. Telling them how much it sucked to get up so early after I had just retired.:lmao: They weren’t amused.

Congrats on your retirement. I hope you enjoy it for a long time.
I’ve gotta get my pension paperwork done. I’ve been working myself out of a job for too long.

Looking forward to it, and sit down with your paperwork.

I had a last day get together with the guys, and my boss gave me a bottle of Tequila.
And the guys gave me a grip of cash.
And they ordered me a bad ass steel flag, but its on order.
