What's new

tech, Nissan Altima CVT replacement

Well it moves. YaY! that solves the problem it had.

Haven't test drove yet. I need new cotter keys for the tie rod ends and some more stupid plastic push pins. I was changing engine oil and doing other maintenance.

I found it interesting, this thing has been sitting with a dead battery for 4 months. I also swapped the TCM with the trans and still I had to hook up a scanner and clear the old codes.

Codes of course were in the PCM not the TCM.

It took 7 quarts until it started running out the plug that you use to check fluid level. Was kind of shocked by that. The system only holds like 7.5. So that much drained out just by pulling the plug on the pan.

Level is very important with this, over full and it will actually hit the CVT belt. I need to take it off back off the stands, warm it up good and pull the plug to get it to the proper level. But currently left it over full because I wanted to make sure the TC and all the pistons and accumulators were full before I did a final level check.

Then time for a test drive. Hope all is well. But I imagine it will be. Bought a lot of higher end parts from this junk yard before, always had great luck.

Now I just need to find an abandoned baby momma to sell it to.

Google says total capacity is 10 qts on a '16 Altima. Also says a drain and refill is usually about 5 qts. So still surprising it took 7 to start coming out the fluid level hole.

I bought some Castrol CVT from AutoZone the other day...they had it on clearance for $6/qt. So I need to do the wife's Rogue at some point. Need to pick up a pan gasket and filter, as I want to drop the pan to see how much crap is in the bottom.

It's the same thing as the 1st-2nd gen. Explorer back in the day, the fix costs half or more than it's worth, and it gets scrapped. Before cash-4-clunkers, I couldn't count how many spotless explorers I saw in the salvage yards.

91% of all Altimas are owned by middle class young white chicks with illegitimate kids raised by memaw and papaw, and the car has been slightly wrecked at least 3 times. They also have a low resale value even mint. So the barely used car is worth maybe $7k if perfect, and it's got $4k worth of body damage, chopped belts showing on the tires, and now needs a $5k transmission. Of course it's totalled. Nobody is running these 300k miles + because most of the original owners are dumb sluts with tax refund money.

I dunno about the 4 banger, but the 3.5 will last forever(ish) with oil changes.

Snapped this

100% as you described I'm sure

Got test drive done. All is well.

Interesting the 2014 trans and tcm shifts like it has gears. The 2016 did not. You never felt it shift.

But couple things to button up and done. I am so glad to be done with this car.

Now I feel like when I sell it I need to say owned by old white guy

So to update this thread because it is becoming very entertaining.

Wife continued to drive this car. In May of this year we had a hail storm. It actually got a few hail dents from a storm a couple years ago but this one was a lot worse. Got the roof of my house, my son's pickup. My pickup. Anyway, I digress.

So we thought since we have been paying full coverage for 9 years and it now has diminished value we would file a claim and see what happens. Never filed a claim for something like this in my life. Was an adventure in itself.

They totaled the car. For hail damage. I was actually expecting that. Got a check for just over $5k and kept the car.

Wife was going to keep driving it but that insurance check was burning a hole in her pocket and she bought something else, so last night I listed it for sale.

And boy are the best of FB coming out for it.

I did not know FB could block screen shots. That is actually kind of a red flag for me as a seller.

Been asked to leave the license plates on it and they would pay full price. Uhmm not gonna happen.

Not gonna post single mom pics because most of them have very underage kids in it.

But I will post a couple of these.

Harper is trying to get me to by an online records report.

And she called me Mate. I don't think she looks like someone that would use the word Mate.

Are you asking the customary $1k-$1500 for a "clean" Altima or are you making life hard on yourself by knowing what you got.

Edit: Shit, $5k, you're fucking retarded. These cars go $1k and under in "needs work to get you to work" condition and top out around the retail price of a reman trans (which you ain't getting unless you just installed one). :lmao:

If she is going to reimburse you for the cost of the report, why doesn't she just run it herself? Obviously it is a scam, which you know.
I've had the same request when selling vehicles. I tell them the same thing...that they can run the report themselves, if they want to see it. They said they need to make sure the vehicle hasn't been in any accidents, etc. (this was on a vehicle that we bought brand new, so I knew the whole history of the vehicle). I find it easier to just ignore the scammers/spammers...pretty easy to pick most of them out.

I didn't want to list it that high. wife wanted to start there. I don't really care.

This car, minus the hail dents is certainly an above average car.

Pretty sure I would have had it sold for $4500 already if the wife would have agreed to it.

That website was created on July 14.
lmao, that is awesome.

I had ran into that scam before. Actually tried to enter my info and it wouldn't let me. I got lucky. found out it was a scam later.

But hopefully others will come across this and see it is a scam and how it goes and not get caught in it.

I would delete the listing, post it again on your wife's profile and let her deal with all this fucking retardation. Sell it for $2800 and move on with life, its a cvt nissan (my wife has one, I've put a CVT in it) I'm planning on selling it for the cost of the brand new from nissan CVT I put in it 20k ago.

hell let's make it more simple for everyone, if a "buyer" sends you a link to click on to make the sale happen, Never click on a link to make a "sale" happen.

Maybe, as always I hope it will be gone soon. Have a couple wanting me to leave work early, said they are bringing cash, want to buy it for their daughter.
Seem pretty serious. Usually you can tell the questions someone asks if they are serious or not.

This couple is asking all the right questions.

You could send her a link back to the anti scam page that shows it score like a 70 out of 100 on "probably a scam"

I think she was a he the way they talked.

He finally left me alone. But yeah have to remember that next time.

Older black lady? Because I don’t see any other demographic driving a clean Altima these days.

Just saw this one in traffic. She had no problem hammering down and passing fuckwits.

The majority of the people that contacted me were black.
A good portion of those came from another country.

Couple Hispanics In their, I must come right now fashion.

3 or 4 single white moms.

The three most serious was this white couple that bought it for their teen daughter.

Second was a white high school kid. His dad was going to bring him, he got my venmo tag and was all hot to buy it.

3rd was a white single mom.

Just from the conversations we had I was pretty sure one of those 3 would buy it tonight.
But it is Facebook and that brings out all and every kind.

Gotta remember, I am in iowa. Different crowd than what most of you guys have to deal with.

Just curious, what kind of fluid change intervals did you follow?

Can't speak for Nissan but the new FWD shitboxes I am familiar with go about 60-80,000 recommended per the manual. Drop the pan, let it drain, replace. Same with a 02" R55re (?) in a Ford.
