Tanzania

...and lions. One of the best experiences was when a couple of brothers were sleeping with a third up higher, and a fourth came creeping back from a hunt. He snuck through the tall grass and ambushed them with a mock-attack and a roar. Super hilarious.

What does a trip like that cost, from home to there and back?
A ballpark of 5K per person plus flights for two weeks. Lots of variables around time of year, where to, and types of accommodations. As mentioned a lot of extra expenses that you might not consider on top of that. Tips, immunizations. I would say we were not high end, but didn't go budget.

Actually cheaper than I expected. :smokin:

Freaking awesome!
I want to hear about about immigration and travel within Tanzania, any issues or was your guide also a fixer that handled it?

With the malaria drugs, I've heard from a lot of people that got more sick from the prevention than from actual malaria, I've always been too nervous to take them and just risked it.

Did the locals in the villages interact with you?
I heard a lot of times western folks get harassed and constantly hounded for money.

"das jun"? "give money", right?

Awesome pictures. Trip of a lifetime. Congrats.

Great pics! My wife and I are going in December/January. Your posts give me an idea what to expect.
11 days in Tanzania + flights.

No problems. Immigration is just fill out a paper document. Pay $100 to get your Visa. There were a couple of road check points asking for a "tax", easier to pay 5000 than question it. The guide did pay all the park fees, lodging, etc. We asked if he could take us around Arusha one night, and he made it clear he was at our call day & night the entire time we were in country.

Yes, there were a few asking, but not too bad. We tried to reinforce the benefit of tourism to the community by bringing pencils, basketball and soccer balls, but gave them to teachers, or football teams. Primary school learning English photo.

We had pre-arranged a cultural visit, but realized it was a tourist trap song and dance. Road signs for miles to visit the site. We had our guide take us to a local village instead to met with some artists and see the agriculture. Had lunch with a local family that was a great experience, and found the banana beer tap house.
