T case gearing for 40s

It would put the rear yoke behind the rear link mounts. I'll get the rear axle slid under it when I get home tonight and measure it again to be sure. I do however plan on mounting the radiator in the back which would allow me to move all of the drivetrain forward. That might be another option.

but may creat engine over the axle and issue with that clearance give and take for sure.

Local GM dealer has this adapter in stock, I'm gonna see if I can make it work.

There was a OE cast iron version of this adapter and is way stronger. If it was me I'd look for that and stay away from the aluminum version.

I've seen the cast iron ones. This one is in town and cheap enough for mock up to see which input I need. It appears to be similar if not same dimensions.

It for sure will. I already need to raise the front of the rails several inches to get a respectable belly height. I'm shooting for around 20". It is on the stands in the picture at 21.5 and the 60 won't go under at ride height as it sits. It's gonna be 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag up there for sure.

So my FJ40 has a stock 6 liter, turbo 400, and Atlas 4.3 with 5.38 gearing with 43" TSL SX's.

In snow and sand it sucked. 4low was too low, and it never seemed like I had enough power for 4high.
4low was great for crawling on rocks. Most of mine friends I wheel with all have either 3.8 Atlas, or some sort of doubler with either 4 speed or 6 speed automatics. I could never keep up with them with all the gearing options they have.

I think it all depends on what the main wheeling you plan on doing. I think a doubler is a better way to go if you can make it work, just for the more gearing options.

IMO if you can fit a 241/205 style doubler in your rig, that is the best option for a general trial rig.
(Racing / Bouncing or Portal / Sand Hollow crawlers maybe not.)

It gives you a very strong 4 speed t-cse at a very good price / value.
1.1 high range
1.96 mid-high
2.72 low
5.33 double low

Wouldn't it give a 5.33 double low or am I misunderstanding something critical?

A buddy has a stock 6.0L, not sure if it's an LQ4 or LQ9, TH400, Atlas 3.8, 5.38s, and 40" tires. I think the gearing is about perfect. It crawls well, but still has plenty of wheel speed for shooting walls and carving dunes. Weight plays into it though, he's under 4,000Lbs.

For the OP, 5.38s in the axles no questions. Either a 3.8 or 4.3 Atlas depending on your proclivities.

The doubler is gonna be a no go. Rear driveshaft would only be 18" with 203 205 doubler. It's gonna be around 28" with single case.

Well durrrr. Wiskey talk.
You guys better not be using my Alabam education against me now.. :lmao:

No worries.... I'm obviously pretty fucking stupid since I didn't do the math sitting there in front of my face and realize you'd added it. Talk about duh.

I started my YJ with 6.0, th350, 3.8 Atlas & 4.88 gears on 39 reds. Seemed good all around. Crawled decent and was a pretty good hill killer. However, I wanted a lower gear for crawling. So I went with 5.38 gears. Much better! And the only thing it did was change my hillclimbing from first gear low range to second gear low range.

Unless you stick with something like a 3:1 tc, you will always have the issue of shifting between hi and low throughout the day.

JohnnyJ has a 6.0, th400, 3:1 case and 5.38 gears on 39 reds and seems to really like it.

FYI, an 18” driveshaft is not a “No Go”. That said, a lot depends on your budget. I prefer 5.13 r&p and run 4:1 case in the rocks on 42s. 2.72 case works better for me on hill climbs and floor it waterfalls. I’ve seen 5.13s with 39s and 2.72 case work as well but that’s probably the limit. Also 5.13s, 42s with 3.8 case.

The angle is a little off but it’s a hair shy of 15 1/2” to the DS flange.
