Sunday night losers club

Took the dog to Fiesta Island. Gave him a bath when we got home. Made stuffed bell peppers for a late lunch, then roasted chicken and salad for dinner. Watching "Eastern Promises" on HBO. Big goofball is wiped out

In now. Went to look at a vacation home to buy, turns out someone I know through work lives just down the street in a REALLY nice house. Also owns the house next door, which was her first house and a ranch on the other side of town.

She invited us over when she found out we'd be up this way and toured us around the area and then took us over to their ranch. I'm floored. She and her husband have done some amazing work on all their properties.

We did this kind of last minute, and my dumbass didn't throw a fishing pole in the truck before we left. I could have caught a bunch of trout today:homer:

Planned to do a quick fab job this morning then go cut firewood. Quick turned into 3+ hours, then decided to paint the door frames of my van trailer to attempt to slow the rust since the weather seemed nice.

Go to head out with the firewood truck and it won't start. Not even 3 year old starter decided to die.

Grabbing a starter, the mail and some spray paint took almost 2 hrs. Lowes parking lot was packed, yet hardly anyone waa inside.

Switched starter out, put a Denso 4kw unit in, old one was way smaller 3.6kw Mitsubishi. Made it a bit harder to get bolted in and wired.

By then day was shot, so no point in driving 10 miles out to the wood yard.
Cleaned a few things up, set the parts washer to recycle the solvent since I put new heater elements in it yesterday. Friggin $350 for them shits.

Started to cut up some 10 gauge for an excavator belly pan, realized I'm down to grinder or plasma cutter, both suck for sheet stock compared a metal cut saw. M18 let the smoke out and the big plug in Milwaukee is waiting for a blade to come in.

And then started pouring rain, so I gave up.
Had planned to Roundup around the building as the grass/weeds are coming out. Can't get the bush hog around yet, need to move a few hundred yards of dirt (on my todo list)

Waiting on welding gas to do a some work on the bush hog.

And planned to frame in and setup a new bathroom area and a bedroom.... was supposed to do JUST that. Yeah...

if you got a plug in circular saw you can abuse it by using a shitty blade to cut sheet steel
if it is a really shitty blade you want it to be as high of speed as possible (a wood cutting one and not a worm drive one either) so it'll friction saw
set the depth to max so it has the least cross section in contact with the blade

I was excited about that fancy parts washer until I realized how cheap solvent is when compared to the extreme complexity of that box of wizardry

Not that much to it, though the parts are pricey. Mine is about 20 years old and was used in an Alyeska Pipeline shop. Can't be too upset about it needing a few wear parts.

May have been able to source the heaters from a generic source for cheaper, but I couldn't find any specs.

The parts washer it replaced held about $750 of solvent if i used cheap stuff. I'd get a year, maybe 2 tops before it was getting greasy. And I'd be careful about what I was cleaning to try and get more use out of the solvent.

Yeah, can use diesel for under $100 but it leaves everything greasy, plus end up smelling like diesel constantly. Not that I hate that, but it does get annoying to do wash with pants that have a little diesel and the next 3 loads makes everything diesel fragrance.

huh that's pretty cool, hope he keeps it up
Thank you.

From this time last year bringing him home from the nursing home in a wheelchair and incontinent to walking 2mi and working out with resistance bands and weights and now starting to make some sense. He's taken on dealing with the female JRT. THANK GOD!! I do not like that dog as she is so much work and she's evil. Now I do not have to worry about her fitting the through the fences and hunting off property.

Although, he did grab one of my coffee cups and took it outside empty, came back in surprised af that the cricket he caught was able to jump out of it.
"I tried to catch you a cricket you could keep as a pet, but it jumped out."

WTF?????????? :lmao: Ste and I shared a look and just walked away. Neither of us wanted to ask him anything about it.

Father even admitted his alcoholism!!!!! Thus far he has refused to admit his drinking was ever excessive or that he gave himself so many drunk head injuries.

Dang.

My Dad got the "you have pre-diabeetus" deal from the Doc and went full on no sugar, minimum carbs, blood testing and acting like he'll need his legs cut off next week.

Not even any ice cream and he'd sometimes have a cone for each hand

Though since being retired a few years he's definitely put on some weight. Worked as at Millwright at an OSB mill for almost 40 years so tons of walking, stairs and ladders everyday.

Father was drunk on his quad and ended up hitting his head and had to be air flighted to Reno. ICU for 20+ days because of the alcohol withdraw complications. He decided the Dr's were lying and they kept him so long because he had good insurance and they wanted to milk him for money. He didn't have a drinking problem.

This level of denial is something I've not dealt with before.

As far as I can he just gave up after the TBI and went into the bottle and ignored all his health issues and the medications. As of last week, he was eating 6-8pcs of bread a day. When he would go for more alcohol he would buy cookies, cake and ice-cream. I have a huge bag of his Rx's dating back to 2016. He would fill them but not even open the bottle.

Good on your dad being smart like that.

Type three diabetes is Alzheimer's.

In. Piddling around fixing the front end on my lawn mower. Started out just welding a loose connection in the steering column, now I'm doing the axle pivot bushings, spindle bushings and wheel bearings. Tubes the spindle bushings sit in were flopping all over so I welded those in, we'll see when I drop the axle how much more shit is broken there.

When you get tired of the stamped steel front axle, the cast iron one is a direct swap... and more durable.

Thought about it, hoping I'll be in the position to buy a zero turn or at least find a deck for the Deere I have out back before I need to do this again. It's really not bad for a '98 with who knows how many hours.

Just saw this, so sorta in.
Yesterday was a traditional raft off breakfast buffet with 7 pontoon boats. Killed the whole morning hanging out on the water.
Met with my brother and Dad’s neighbor about buying Dad’s house. He’s out of the market so now we are ramping up to get it listed. Overwhelming at the moment.

Watched hockey.

Lazy day today.

mineral spirits paint thinner, it's what, 10 bucks a gallon?
tiny bit higher vapor pressure but w/e
been thinking about making a solvent still outta an old freon can and an a/c condenser but ain't got round tuits to go round

I kinda go all out on the retard scale and use gasoline, but that's against everyone's better judgement
been meaning to get some kerosene but ain't seen any below 8 bucks a gallon in a while, even at the pumps. Maybe I could get jet A in a drum from the airport...

Around $30 a gallon.

I was recently in California and apparently denatured alcohol or acetone can’t remember is now banned from being sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s.
I think denatured alcohol, unless they just recently banned acetone :homer:.

I've worked the last few days since they are my regular shifts. Happy memorial day they say, I asked if they knew what they day was about and most didn't. Thank you to all the veterans that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Wait you don't keep a fishing kit under the seat? Doesn't need to be much some line, hooks maybe some split shot
If I looked, I bet I have three ways to do just that from all the bugout stuff I have in the truck.

But this would be recreational, not something I need to do. I would rather enjoy it this trip. And I was actually saying to the wife, I'm bummed I took my old fishing pole out of the truck. I could have used it. Maybe next time.

When I lived in CO I had a break down combo fly/spinning under the seat, because there was always a chance to go.

I used to keep one of these under the seat of my truck, I can't remember if I actually caught anything with it. I forgot all about it when I sold the truck so I guess the new owner got a bonus.:homer:
