Stable Engine Stand

Being as how I have amaased a ridiculous collection of literally dozens of up to 2.5 inch wide Ratchet straps, and even a 5 inch wide one, not to mention chains and chain binders of the lever or screw tightening varieties, as well as lever action chain drive coffin hoists, I could strap that sucker pretty solidly to something.

This, or one arm pulling on the breaker bar/torque wrench and the other bracing against the engine to keep everything from moving.

That's how I got them undone but fuck me it was a struggle. I'm 6'2" 250lbs and earned the nickname Donk for a reason :mr-t:

I'd get them done up again if they were just torqued but I'm concerned about achieving the required accuracy on the angle measurements.
Currently leaning towards the hitch mount cos I've got enough junk laying about to whip that up but l may also look at some sort of removable floor mount.

I've never had a problem disassembling an engine that was laying on an old tire in the bed of a truck. :flipoff2:

Bolt an angle to the floor. Then pin the stand or clamp it to the vertical leg of the floor angle.

rotate the engine in the stand 90 degrees
now instead of wheeling the engine around with your reaction force you're either lifting it or pushing it into the floor

I've had that stand for 25 years and it does everything right. The only problem is the legs don't jive with the legs of my engine hoist, so things need to be a bit cockeyed when you lower the engine onto the stand...but I usually just pick up the base and slide it over the bracket when it's all still a foot high, then sort of kick the stand over the side while lowering it so it clears the legs on the hoist.

For headbolts/mains, I just stand on the legs...then it doesn't go anywhere.
