Spinoff of Spinoff: What do you do to help your neighbors?

Only met one, forget their names now. They are up the road about a quarter mile.
Guy I was in the USAF with is the next neighbor, about 1/2 mile from me.
Couple houses are a bit closer but have no idea who they are or what they even drive.
The properties are 5-50 acres and wooded so not like anyone is just waving at the house next door. Hell I've never even been on the upper half of my property 🤣

Just about anything for some, I’ll help if I’m around for others, and some don’t talk to us.

My stance is still: like a good neighbor, stay over there.

Used to plow the snow for everyone cause I had a tractor, and there were only 3 houses. Would plow about 1/4 mile of sidewalk also for the kids waiting for the bus. Now our side of the road is full and everyone takes care of their own sidewalk. Plowed the old lady’s driveway when her husband died. We have an annual July 4 bbq on out street, best place to watch city fireworks, and someone always gets into it with a non-neighbor driving through to fast or whatever. Who needs that, but until later in the evening it’s fun. I think we have a chat group, but it ain’t to active. We don’t have any kids at home, but our front yard is where all the bikes and scooters and shit get dropped as they cross our yard to their house. Their not to destructive, so I let it slide. Hire the boys to mow the lawn when we are traveling or to busy, share eggs from the chickens if we get to many. We are all mostly friendly, but none are on my list at 2am when I need to dig a hole…

Wave at them if I see them
I live out in BFE and whenever people pass each other while driving we wave even if you don't know each other. A truck drives by and you just wave, it's a rural thing I guess, because I've noticed that even while driving in other states. Had my nephew with us on a trip and he asked if we really knew all those people and why we waved. Had a friend of my wife's that grew up in L.A. say something similar too. Fricking city people:lmao:

Most of us out here help each other out with whatever needs to be done. Cut wood, home repairs, car repairs etc. There are a few that go fuck themselves though, I'll call AAA for them but I won't pull them out when stuck etc. Every year I used to weld up neighbors plow frame because he plowed snow like it was a race and then hit things...RIP Al. Now it will be my job to plow our driveways in the winter.

Just got home from helping a neighbor with his driveway. Sure, he's a friend of mine but he's still a neighbor...4mi away. Just how we roll.

75 yr old couple next door, I try to help out where I can and when they want/ask for assistance- they’re to stubborn to ask a lot of the time though. They feed chickens when we leave town and let me know every vehicle that pulls in the driveway when I’m gone; great neighbors.

I mow grass for the deaf mute couple on the other side of the property because another 1/2 acre on top of my 4 is not a significant addition and it helps keep bugs down. Hard to foster much of a relationship with them due to those communication barriers, but I can tell they appreciate what I do for them.

All four of my neighbors are within a year of me in age. I'm the only one who purchased my house myself - the rest got a house for free from mommy and daddy. They are all passive aggressive pricks so the obvious answer is: NOTHING. Fuck 'em.

I clean leaves out of the ditch. Was out there a few years back and one neighbor asked me to stop, said it was the counties job :shaking:

I asked if was just going to wait to clean until it flooded the ditch up into his house? He seemed confident it would not do that.

Years later the rest of the block is good…except for his section.

We are on 4 acres, my neighbor is on 40. I mow my yard weekly, and cut his side of our property line and around one of his barns when I mow mine. My neighbor is a good dude, and I'm happy to help him here and there. Other neighbor is a nut job, she gets no help anymore, from me.

when I was in town, I would mow the alley all the way across from me (one legged man lived straight across), plus at least half of next door.
would also mow between the houses in front if I was first to mow.
now Im in the country and dont have a neighbor for at least 3/4 of a mile...im in the dead center of 160 acres. push mower, 54" hydro rider, and 6' JD tractor shredder...takes a while to keep the area around the house clear...

Everytime my neighbor or one of his sketchy ass relatives stops by their house with some POS car project, I help push it out of the street and into their driveway to at least pretend the neighborhood isn’t going to shit.
