I'd get some yard work outta the kid before you give him the new title. Make it worth your while

Sounds like the XJ is currently abandoned? Maybe in a mini-mall parking lot RV homeless camp?
Umm...Bought XJ new in 93. Financed for 4 years with VA bank. Moved to NC in 95. Got NC license and plates shortly after. Bank in VA sent title when it was paid off and I put in in my file cabinet. NC never made me change it to an NC title.
Got to pay tax 3x on the same vehicle across its life like a good citizenThey get real pissy here if you buy a "Vehicle" and not put it into your name and then sell it.
They call that curb stoning and according to Google thats a felony (LOL) in most if not all states.
Honestly dont remember what it had on it at this point. Sold it in March and he contacted me recently about the lost title.Umm...
Am I the only one reading this as the bank released the lien and sent you a title, but you never got it put only in your name? So did it still have the banks name on it ( released lien) when you sold it to the kid? If so that may complicate things a bit. VA may only send a replacement to that bank to get it signed off by them first. Better hope that bank is still around and has records going back that far.
Not trying to ruin your day but that's what I'm reading from here. And if I'm wrong someone will tell me shortly.
If anything like KS for the last 20 or so years, the lending company holds the title instead of you having a copy with a lien stamped on it. When paid off, they mail you a completed title free of encumbrances in your name.Umm...

I bet it varies state by state, but "curb siding" or whatever its called normally is triggered when you you do more than 5 a year or something. That said I float titles all the time, and never have my name in the paper trail, so it would be a motivated revenuer that would get me. Hell the one a couple weeks ago was a salvage from one buddy, I rebuilt, sold to another buddy, had a hipo high school friend come inspect it in the original owners name even though he was never there, and floated it on.Got to pay tax 3x on the same vehicle across its life like a good citizen
Right. But bought in 93 with a 4 year note. 97 was closer to 30 years than 20 years. If anything like KS for the last 20 or so years, the lending company holds the title instead of you having a copy with a lien stamped on it.
