What's new

So, the new Ram inline 6 engine (no more V8’s) is missing something on it.

Apparently the new V8 hemi replacement engine, the twin turbo inline 6 engine in the Ram trucks is missing…

The dipstick to check the oil. No worries, that’s all done by sensors now.

One of my old coworkers called me up. Said he found red oil on the ground but couldn't find a dipstick. 2020 Chevy quit including a dipstick on the same 6l90e that had one from 2007-2019.

So the dipstick assembly from a 2019 is $70 and works just fine.

The shop ended up with an $8k bill at the dealership, as idiot manager said "just drive it up the mountain and then down to the dealer. It's just a little oil". :lmao:
Yeah, they had to buy a new trans and converter, and pay the $200/hr.

Got a Honda generator you had to start 10 times to get enough heat for the oil level sensor to read what was actually in there. Way more convenient.

2006 e90 BMW didn't have one, also the only car my wife has ever checked the oil in...

2017 Audi Q5 my daughter is in, same story
She checks it weekly.

I'm happy with them.

Coworker had a Lincoln at works years ago that didn't have a dipstick for the auto trans. I went looking for one on my wife's 2006 4Runner the other day and didn't find it. Fuck relying on sensors for this shit.

none of the transmissions have a level sensor
lots of them have a level checking port or a hidden mini dipstick

I'll look around some. Pretty hilarious when I show people that Subaru MT's have a mini dipstick.

When Subaru started putting in CVTs they didn't put a dipstick on them. Fluid is supposed to be lifetime and only serviced by a dealer. We had a lot of pissed off customers come in over not having a dipstick or because they tried to change their own oil and managed to drain the CVT instead of the engine then realized what they did, then realized there's no way to fill the trans back up, then get pissed again when we told them what it cost to fix their fuck up. I dunno how expensive that fluid is now, but at the time it was something crazy like $50/quart.

There is a plug in the 4runner trans pan you pull when it is running to check and fill. Similar to my F150 and a lot of other stuff now.

My dad has two 2012 Grand Cherokee's. The hemi has a trans dip stick. The 6 cyl has a trans dip stick tube but no dip stick. He uses the stick out of the hemi to check the 6 cyl's 5 spd auto level (just a diff mark). My 2010 Range Rover didn't have an oil dip stick. That's probably because they aren't designed to last long enough to actually need to check the oil...

My wife's old Dodge Intrepid had a fully functional dipstick but she ran it out of oil and ignored the light until it locked up anyways. They should put a really annoying buzzer on cars that wimmen drive so something can interrupt their phone-time while driving their car to death when the CEL comes on.

the cvt fluid kinda finally got cheap-ish if you buy a fitzall in a 16 gal drum

My 09 G8 has a 6L80e with no dip stick. They have been gone on alot of cars for a while now.

some of them like fords got the little 4" long dipstick underneath a threaded cover
don't remove the cover unless it's running or fluid will come out, and be mindful of the catalyst that's 1/4" away from it, glowing hot and waiting to burn the fuck outta you

And you have to check it hot to get the right reading. And if you overfill it by 1/2 a quart it will act all fucky. That’s my 10R80 truck.

On lots of Ferraris you have to check the oil with the engine running and at operating temp.

The C5 Vette had no tranny dipstick. The C7 engine oil is checked while running. I havnt even found out about the C8 yet. (I’d be happy if it blows up.)

AT cars had one for the engine, transmission & front diff. Glad I like old stuff. Most new stuff is full of dumb features I don't care about.

Got an 2005 kompressor, no oil or trans dipstick. Tubes are there and capped though.

I was helping my uncle out at his new shop. I was doing an oil change and lube on an Ford pickup, while the oil was draining I started lubing I was rolling (Creeper this was in 1980s, I was a lot more limber and skinner) from point to point, I couldn't see the grease zerk for the U joints, so I rolled out from underneath, chocked the front wheels, put the truck in neutral, slid the floor jack underneath rolled back under turned the shaft looking for the zerks on the ujoints, there were none!
When I finally went to my uncle to tell him, he smirked at me and said they quit putting them in when they decided that people wern't greasing them. I was wondering what you were doing

My SIL had a Mercedes 20 years ago without one. I made fun of her.
Come on be honest... how many women you know that actually check the oil?

I remember my sister 30 years ago saying her car was making a tapping noise. I asked if she had checked the oil... her response? "It had some when I bought it". The poor little sentra had like 40k on it.

:flipoff2:
