Not to sure where to post this but figure here is the best. This is going to be a build thread on converting a older toy hauler into a mobile tattoo studio.

The fiancée is a tattoo artist and opened her own shop last year. Her dream has always been to have a traveling shop in a bus and go to events and work there ect. Was able to talk her out of the bus idea and into a trailer instead. Main reason behind the trailer idea over the bus is the idea that anyone can tow it and also have room in the trailer to bring our motorcycles with us.

After doing lots of shopping and comparing we went with a toy hauler rv trailer over an enclosed trailer. cost of an enclosed its well over double the price of a toy hauler. enclosed trailer will also not have the roof height of a toy hauler and then would also have to buy doors, windows, water tanks, and other interior stuff we need. Will not be sleeping or eating in the trailer but does need hot water sink station as well as a bathroom. room for 2 artist to work and be able to haul minimum of 2 motorcycles

Picked up this 26 foot Wander toy hauler last fall, comes with water damage in the front floor and a bad front wall repair. water damage was ok as dropped the price more and knew we would be gutting it and removing most of the current floor plan.

I wasnt around much for the demo of the inside but once it stared to come apart found a lot more rot then we had expected. front corners, front floor, rear roof section as well all had rot and needed to be replaced

with needing to do the roof and the trailer being to big to fit in my shop we moved it to the inlaws place as shop big enough that not having to worry about the weather while working on it. once there the front wall, part of the roof and floor all came out

put down two layers of the underlay and made it larger to help seal more. all the new wood going in has been treated with marine paint in hopes to help keep future rot to a minimum

new front wall went up and put 1/2 plywood on the front lower section as well to help beef it up

Wow, you sure dug into that LoL. I had a wanderer wagon. Mine had a slight rear dove tail that I hated, can’t tell if yours does. The frame kinked and whole rear end sagged. Something to reinforce or keep an eye on…

Air conditioner plan?
There are some new cassete style units that might be perfect.

no dove on this, flat floor all the way. as far as i can tell the frame and everything under it is in good shape but will probably do a full rewire as the lights are done cheap and i cant stand merretts on wiring

Is getting a tattoo in a trailer that's mobile more or less classy than getting one in a trailer that's on blocks? Or does it depend on if the one on blocks has skirting?

There is an event we have gone to that had a guy there doing tattoos out of an old 5th wheel at the kitchen table and was sketchy. with doing the full gut and remodel of the inside we hope it wont look and feel like a travel trailer and more like a studio. will also be fully up to heath codes and legal

Thats gonna get real hot with two artists, two customers and their people, not to mention people coming in and out
Just throw more A/Cs in the roof holes you already have to cut to remove the rot. :flipoff2:

They're in canuckistan, never gets over like 65*f :flipoff2:

hopefully the ac unit that come with the trailer will be enough but will also have two vents in the roof if dont want to run the ac. plus like said 100f is a damn hot day around here and should not be more then 2 artist and 2 clients in the trailer, everyone else will be outside

What are you planning for generators?
it had a built in propane unit but i was missing parts and had seen better day. took it out to give us more floor space and plan on getting a larger 3000 or bigger unit that i can roll in and out when needed. also going to run a a few 6v battery as have had great luck with them in my camper and can run the camper all summer without charging them

I'd wager on the A/C running near nonstop, not sure a 3k would cut it unless you want a pair that can be paralleled together
your probably right and its not that much more money for a larger unit. pretty much only need it for the a/c as lights will be led and low draw so other then the water tank and pump thats about all there will be.

If you can get an inverter genset mounted into the chassis with a remote start and some sound deadening, it'd help make it a less ketch affair is my only thought on bringing it up early in the layout and build process.

Pretty sweet idea overall, that'd be a great full time gig

What are you planning for the interior wall / floor finish?

walls and roof will be paneling painted whatever color she wants. flooring we are still trying to figure out and could use some input on that for sure. get mixed info about doing household plank style floor as some say it will move and come apart in a trailer and not to glue it down. so right now leaning toward doing an epoxy floor as easy to clean and should hold up well to the bikes as well

I wasn't gonna bring it up cause I figured AC might not be a huge issue in their geography but 4 people in there in full sun is gonna get toasty unless the insulation package is really stellar.

My initial question about the AC was because RV AC units are really loud and don't work that well for their amp usage.
Going to MINI-Split now might really help you build awesome setup.

I understood what you were getting at. Even if you foamed that thing the door is going to be open a LOT and 6 people plus gear is going to warm up quick

have never hear of a Minisplit so please sell me on it

Sheet Vinyl floor gets my vote.

Holds up great to everything, cheap and easy to fix, less concern for hot tires than epoxy

I haven't worked this out all the way but there are many options these days. Something like this what I was thinking would be more readily available to retrofit to a RV, even more so when it is fully gutted like yours is.
This is the 9k, you might want a 12 or 18k depending on what you think the actual load will be.
They have tangential blower fans that are much quieter than RV units, I mention that because I assume the environment for the artist is as important as anything, everyone needs to be comfortable...

I've got a 15k btu AC for my RV, for being just a single unit, it's passable.

I don't think it would cut it for a shop. 2 of the 9k might be decent though, then it could be some or all instead of all or none, if that matters

I have a 15k single on my 38' and it blows in the sun/summer but I really question real BTU's vs RV BTU's.

If you went with a multi zone head you could run 2 9k ceiling cassettes.
You might want to get some input from a HVAC guy though on loading.

I also wonder about cold air blowing directly on a 90 lb tattoo artist... so air distribution might be really important.

Ducted would be a solid option to lay out with it all apart. Well worth giving up a couple inches of ceiling height to be able to control the angle.

90lb artist and 300lb customer, trying to keep them both from sweating for an hour or two will be a task

I haven’t tried this outfit before, but I read some decent reviews (meaningless), and they are in the frozen North, so less border-rapeage. We have been meaning to try one of their lower btu units out in our tiny bumper pull camper, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
