What's new

School me on Poland

Any idea about their politics? Work ethics?
Anti gay/trans agenda.
Anti illegal invaders into their country.
Anti abortion.

Pretty right on the spectrum from everything that's come out of there over the last several years.

Beautiful country and very friendly people, spent a month there back in '97. So long ago that I probably wouldn't be any help...lol

One of my best friends retired there a couple years ago. We talk about once a week, and I would say his comments about the locals echo what others have said about their politics; pretty conservative, and pro American. Also, there is a good exchange for the dollar, so he lives pretty well just on social security

I used to work with a lot of older Poles. I think they all had a shrine to Reagan at their homes. They don't like what the left is pushing.

I did spend a few days in Poland a few years ago. Clean, safe and people were friendly.

That's good news then. I hate having to tap dance around liberal mindsets.

Watch what you say when you're in the country. They have extremely strict blasphemy laws that are still enforced.

Interesting, I'll have to dig into that out of curiosity. I'm not in the habit of running around praising cthulu but it'd probably slip while in country.

OP Are you going ot take the family? If I had a hard scheduled overseas trip; my travel department would make the reservations for the two of us. Of course I would have to foot the bill for the airlines. (It gets expensive going business class). :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

Their submarines have screen doors

They throw their hand grenades with the pins still in

Their tanks are powered by two guys pushing them

You can sink their battleships by putting them in water

They sent their astronauts to the sun at night time

Let’s do Italians now!

OP Get yourself a frequent flyer membership in whatever airline gets you to Poland. BTW: First and Business class lounges are a blast! :stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot:

More stupidity from you, kielbasa is excellent.

100% correct.

I wouldn't be moving there. Mainly organizing their efforts for my US based employer. So somewhat frequent visits to check in and celebrate/push milestones.

If I get the job, I'll definitely have to do that. I hadn't even thought about it. I'm not sure who my employer uses for international travel. Hell, last time I was on a plane was my honeymoon in 2009. So there's that too.

Rooney, I grew up in a Polish/German household and was exposed to lots of the Polish cuisine. They have some excellent food and I suggest sampling it. One dish you might find challenging is Czarina (Duck Blood Soup).

Given the crohns I'm hesitant to try a lot of things. The desire is there but the fear of the consequences is my hurdle. A very meat heavy diet keeps my guts happy. So who knows, maybe duck blood would be soothing.

I'd try it if I didn't have work the next day. Maybe I'll get the chance. Now I'm curious about it.

Is it available state side at all?

Don't listen to SDCJ and try any weird shit. Hell no to duck soup blood nonsense. Hell no to "flaki" gut soup.
Stick with the tried and true staples when it comes to eating:

Pierogis, the cheese kind and the mushroom kind. Gulompkis(cabbage rolls with beef and sauce). Pickle soup(yeah, that's a thing). Potato pancakes. (P?)Favorki(best desert ever with powdered sugar). Glupki or gluski, "lazy perogi" with dimples in middle for gravy to fill. Applecake. I'm sure I screwed up the spelling but you should manage if you sound it out.

I doubt you'd easily find it except in an area with a large Polish population. Not a common dish.

Hey Mr. Simpleton, I told her it would be challenging.

Get the pig knuckle if you can find it. I've been over there a few times, would go back again in a heartbeat. Last trip over took the old lady, LOT had economy plus tickets for a good price (and they have all 787 Dreamliners running the route). Got the business class meal and amenities, just didn't have the cube style seat.

Great people and food. I did time in Wroclaw and down by the German/Czech border for the most part.
