Asking for input on a first time purchase and application for a simple scan tool. I am now the shepard of my extended family's fleet of early 2000 model year autos which are aging and accumulating mileage. 01' Nissan Sentra, 02' Ford Explorer :lmao:, 2011 Honda CRV and 2013 Hyundai Elantra. My expectation is a Android and or pc bluetooth connection that can locate and identify some common basic faults and codes. Grazing the web, youtube and Amazon, I get 3 levels of cost/intensity. Inexpensive cable connect units with hand held screen, about $35-$50, $100 bluetooth units, and then the >$1000 shop pro units. I have this unit in my cart at Amazon

Any advice on this ? It advertises more in depth code reads and came pretty well recommended. - thanks :flipoff2:

Edit: my mechanics abilty sucks but I am committing to at least trying to stay out of the dealer or shops for realistic fixes....

Module Bought, clipped in, Torque Pro software installed, runs perfect, 0-60 in 14 seconds  and .............................. no error codes at all. No easy way out but to disassemble and trouble shoot wiring. Fuck I hate wires and shorts. Maybe I can have a vehicle fire.

I've had about a 50% success rate with the ELM bluetooth units. I have several trucks and want one for each truck. Seems half of them work and half don't. Torque on my phone is great though!

FYI I have a few scanners.

Alltel when I want to get serious

Bluetooth when I am having a medium issue and need to figure it out

My goto and favorite unit is the corded $20 Ebay special, it works fast, always connects, and gets the job done.

So there are limitations to all of these and the easily available software, AKA "Apps". For example the 02' Explorer has 2, maybe more "PCU". The 4x4 is run by a seperate stand alone module, and is beyond any off the shelf shit, AFAIK. ?? Intermittent faults, shorts :lmao::lmao::lmao:

This and Forscan on my laptop will tell me everything there is to know about my Ford. Forscan is free too.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Haven't had to deal with "new" vehicles and the ECU and codes until now. Always had old almost analog beater Jap 4x4 or new shit that went forever without problems. Enter the Ford :lmao: Is there any entertainment value for the mob in me keeping this thread up ? Or is it just too dull ?
