Wife and I are headed to a wedding in San Francisco towards the end of august. We have an extra day to ourselves to see the city and what is around, no car just an uber but staying down town.

Ive had great luck with suggestions on here for other places weve gone.. so what should we do?

Make reservations to see the prison NOW.

Walk the area (the warf) and go drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and go to the little park / fort at the bottom.

with Lunch, that is a full day.

If there is any time left over go walk around Haight Ashbury.

Don't leave ANYTHING in your car.

Hop on hop off bus. It will take you across the GG bridge and back. Tommys joint for lunch.
I'm surprised Tommy's Joynt is still open. LOTS of other restaurants have shut down, and so have lots of stores.:frown:

We go to SF at least once a year. I like the golden gate, the cable cars, fisherman's warf (sea lions), and Alcatraz. Catch a ball game if you have time and like it.

Shit will get stolen if you leave it anywhere.

For sure tour Alcatraz and comes with a boat ride!

GG Bridge, dunno if Pier 39 is still a thing?

My wife and son used to love going like 3x a year, I haven’t been in at least 10 years.

orale orale has good mexican food if you end up in the financial district on accident :flipoff2:

pier 39 was cool back in the day

other than that idk, whenever I've worked out there you just find stuff within a block or two of where you're at, that part is cool

i will say avoid the tenderloin district and the civic center, fawkin zombieland like a year ago

Drive across the bridge and come say Hi. I'm about 10 minutes north of the GG.

But seriously, any of the above suggestions are good. I'd add in if you like history, tour the Jeremiah Obrien and rhe Sub that's next to it I can never remeber the name of.

Yep, with limited time I'd do exactly what was mentioned above. The whole waterfront along Pier 39 is great, Ghiradelli Square is a nice endpoint on the water to check out over by the cable car turnaround, if you have a ride go do the loop road over the GG thru Marin Highlands and see the old Nike base that's neat too.

Also over the bridge by Santa would be Mt Tam, Sausalito, Stinson Beach, Muir Beach, probably too late to get into Muir Woods, but that whole area is awesome as well.

If you've never seen the redwoods, Muir is great. You need reservations to park there or you have to park at the Larkspur ferry and take the shuttle over.

SIL lives in Sebastopol, not a bad area for NOSF.

The submarine Pampanito at Fishersmans warf is a blast for someone that never was stationed aboard a baleo class sub.

The hop on and off bus is THE BEST WAY TO SEE SAN FRANSHITSTAIN… without a doubt… it’s only like $25 each for all day

Where is the wedding ?

Do you want to see the redwoods ?

I grew up on the sf peninsula and thought the hop on/ off bus was stupid until about ten years ago I went on it with a bunch of friends and we all had a great time
I actually took the bus 2 weeks ago

I just watched a video where this guy walks all over the place showing 100’s of boarded up businesses. Then showing car after car with broken glass on the ground which was once their window.

Have fun there on your visit.

Go do some crime. Just keep it below $950 and you don't get in trouble.
I've got this idea for a SF business. I don't know what you'd call it.

Basically, you find a junkie. Beat his ass and take his heroin. Go somewhere else and sell the heroin. Repeat.

Keep everything under $950 per occurrence and you're good to go.

San Fran was rad, thanks for all the recommendations! Our hotel was on at the end of one of the cable car lines, so we got the day passes and rode it a bunch. Went to the Warf and Pier 39, ate some crab and saw the sealions. Wedding in Mills Valley brought us over the Golden Gate, and "Garden party" in Oakland brought us over the other bridge.

View from the hotel

Alcatraz, hop on hop off tours, Pier 39, and ghiradelli square were all highlights when my wife and I were there for 3 days about 8 years ago. There were other cool things to see, but with one day thats about it. The hop on hop off tour lets you cover a lot of ground and see things without having to get off.
