What's new

Rock Auto

Am I the only one think o.p. should have compared his new pump to the old before trying to install it? I ordered some brake pads from Amazon, opened them and realized they looked different. I never tried to install them because they didnt look correct. Checked part numbers against my order and they sent me the wrong stuff. Easy return and exchange.

Anymore I compare everything before installing it.

Done hundreds of dollars of business with them over the years. Never had a bad experience other than parts I went stupid cheap on (lol $5 ball joints) being shit quality. You should have caught this issue before installing. :flipoff2:

I’ve ordered thousands of dollars of parts from them and have only had one problem that is not worth mentioning.
I love Rock Auto!

I've only had 1 issues with brake calipers on my Subaru not fitting correctly. Not sure if it was my error ordering or a parts label issue. Either way the return was painless. Local parts store had the correct stuff in stock for a little more $. Job was done that day.

Also learned the alternator on my Kioti cross references to a 1980 Ford Courier. Kioti wanted like $259. Rock Auto, $32. Win.

I buy stuff there all the time. I resisted it for a long time but you can't beat the prices. Even on Brand name items.

Not had any problems with returns yet, but my returns are pretty obvious issues. Core returns are not bad just use their shipping label it is far cheaper than you walking in and paying shipping.

I always expect the worst so pay with a CC so you can file fraud. Of course you get what you pay for but they have brand name stuff too.

I've bought thousands of dollars from them with very little issue. I've had one issue sending a return to them, but it did eventually get resolved. Great for filters, windshield wipers, bulbs, etc that you you can plan for. It's also nice having a fleet of vehicles, so I'm not in a crunch waiting for a part.

I've never had issues with them and I buy a lot. If you buy onesy twosy you don't save much money over buying local but I always find it cheaper if I plan a little. Before shipping their parts are 40-50% cheaper. I bought a Spicer U-joint a while back that was $25, eveyone else wanted atleast $75. I ship for my job and think their prices are fair, they're just charging what it costs them. All my "returns" have been super easy. I put that in quotations because most of them I've kept, they just refunded me without me shipping it back.

To any and all that have spent thousands on parts, do you make any attempt to discriminate on country of manufacture ?

I only buy oem parts I need that are stupid expensive at the parts stores. aftermarket comes from summit or local stores. I never buy large stuff from them though, they wanted $30 to ship a $30 mirror I found on amazon for $32 with free shipping. I sure got a lot of their cool magnets on the beer fridge!

my fridge is almost covered with their magnets. I usually get slightly irritated when there's no magnet in the box. Good chance are they slipped out through an untaped box flap opening and enter shippers' "blackhole" of lost items.

I'll echo I had issues with the return stuff as well, I think it took 3-4 weeks to get refunded.

Not if i am fixing for someone that has no money. It will get the cheapest piece of crap put on it that will get it out the driveway.

Depends on what you are working on many times there ends up being so few choices. Hopefully america will start making more stuff again, but yeah shopping for my own projects definitely matters.
options for say a wiper motor for a 1973 Buick is not like options for a 2014 grand cherokee.

You know Rock Auto has to be top notch if they have XOR build their giveaway vehicles for them.

Holy shit I cannot echo this enough. Bought an oil filter for my boat from local auto parts store. Had a fram on it and requested a wix. Put it on and started the boat and oil filled my bilge. Awesome!! O ring was in a different spot on filter so it didnt seal against block. I ALWAYS compare everything now.

Where did you drain that bitch ??

I'll order from RA if prices are cheaper/reasonable. The only complaint is the Ford Ranger upper hose on the 3.0 which is wrong part/#. I wanted to send it back but they said I waited too long on the return policy. It was one of those projects where I amass a bunch of parts & one day, *BOOM* R/R time-

If I know what I'm looking for, I'll order it from them. My local O'reilly's is staffed by some good people, so I will go there in a heartbeat as well.

Never had a problem with returns, but I've only returned a couple of items.

Have ordered a few parts from there.

When the local parts store closed some years back, I switched to ordering the vast majority of parts through Rockauto or Amazon. You can save a good bit at times, occasionally really good deals on older domestically made parts that are on closeout. The shipping game can be a bit fawked, you can mess with different combinations of part mfg, location, and qty. to sometimes save on shipping. I once added a single $0.89 spark plug to the cart, which for some reason dropped the total shipping by $5.00.

Your shop fridge looks like mine.... I use them all the time because its much cheaper, and sometimes you can get closeout parts for pennies.. Often the parts are the same name brands offered by napa or Orielys.. That and I'm rarely in a hurry. Had a few mess up on parts but no more than the stores here in town. The OP made the mistake of not recognizing he had the wrong part from the get go and trying to modify it to fit. Most parts places check electrical component returns for damage pretty closely.
