Right turn on red

We've got at least 3 exit ramps off of I-40 here that are double right lane that have signs that say something like, "right on red after stop" for both the inside and outside lanes.

The outside lane should be the easier one to make a right from, but there's always some jack wagon on the inside lane that's nosed well past the line so you can't see any of the oncoming traffic.

we have the technology...give us the intersection you speak of..we can google street view.

but it sounds like the only option for these two lanes is turn right? then yes when safe

Settle an argument. (Not likly)

You are driving on a two lane off ramp of an interstate. The ramp y’s into two lanes of a four lane highway. There is a cement divider on the highway, so no turning left. There is also a red light. If you are in the right lane, you can obviously turn right after stop. Can you do it from the left lane? I say no, of course, my better half says yes.

Yes unless posted that you can't.

Isn't it all about the "signage" meaning all the different signs posted on beside or above the road? Otherwise if not posted take them damned right, right? Obviously when it's safe to.

But what do I know, just a stoned communicator here.:usa:

My laymen understanding is the free right turn on red is available for curb lane to curb lane turns. And you can not make a free right turn crossing another lane of travel unless its signed to do so.

That being said I do when its safe to do so.

Spinoff - is it legal to do a u-turn at a red light? As in pull up the the stop bar at a red light and then make a left u-turn, partially in the intersection.

I don't believe it is, but I see people doing it here all the time, which has me questioning it.
Where else are you gonna make a u-turn? We have streets here set up to force that kind of u-turn instead of people making left turns across 2-3 lanes.

Do you run reds at night if you can see nobody’s coming, like an American?
Of course!

except I'm reminded of a friend that stopped for a stop sign, waited for a truck to pass, then pulled out and got hit by the cop who was tailing the truck. Cop headlights were off.

I thought if only on divided or a one-way street.

It’s been a bit since I’ve taken a test, like 1985.

yes but I'm more hesitant

and i worry more about the other lane thats turning right merging into me

It's not a question of location, it's a question can you do it on a red.

Depends on the state.
Florida that shit seems fine. Ohio there's usually signage about from the curb Lane only.

I take this into account and always leave them a line of sight, then I mash the gas pedal and start a one tire fire as I do a wide right turn.

Post a screenshot the streetview of the intersection in question or provide the address.

I had to make a uturn today across a double yellow line. I was on a section of road with just 2 lanes going my way and 2 lanes going the other. I couldn't do it yet, had to sit there and keep an eye out for the next possible left turn chance. Turned out to be someone's driveway. Jackpot, I legally made my uturn across that double yellow.

Gotta turn your lights off real quick so you can see if anyone's incoming. Been doing it for years for blind corners and such in the woods, drives my wife nuts.
One night come home on a two lane with no moon a car kept flashing his high beams at me. I was in a midnight blue k10 and just shut my lights off, the dude stuck to his lobeams after that .

Yes , we have a highway exit here like that with 2 right turn lanes and I turn right from the lefter most right turn lane on red all the time.

Its only illegal if you get caught.

Some states you must turn into the right-most lane, so this would be a conflict if two lanes were trying to turn into one.

I'm pretty sure if there's 2 right turn lanes, then they want people turning into the respective lanes on the cross street.
Correct. If there are lines that guide you through the turn to keep you in to your lane, it would be illegal to cross those lines to end up in a different lane.

This is a similar intersection to what the OP is describing. Two right turn lanes, neither is signed for no right on red. What can get annoying is if you're in the right lane, a vehicle in the left will often pull past the stop bar and block your view. :shaking:
