What's new

resonator internal design

I'm pretty sure you just created a bastard version of an OEM barrel muffler just with pipe overlap instead of perforated baffling.
the tubes are perforated with a cutoff wheel, all the OE versions of what I got are necked down inside to little baby pipes, this one is 2.5" all the way

I had a ford ecoboost resontor that was straight through with perforated tube but it wasn't doing what I wanted

Do they neck down before or during the perforation?
on the ford one I tried? it's straight through 2.5 with no bends or anything
maybe I'm being unclear because I'm a fucking retard

google you up 'dynomax super turbo'
those are the only 3" turbo-corvair style mufflers that are actually 3" tube on the inside
similarly a lot of the 2.5" ones out there are 2" on the inside

I could probably buy a chinese "3"" one and adapt the ends to 2.5" but you can only see some of the internal design from the outside, I'd need to cut one open to look at its guts

I understood what you meant the firs time. What I'm getting at is that if the pipe doesn't start necking down until pretty much where the perforations start or later then the fact that it's smaller might not matter since the gas that would otherwise be competing for space in the "too small" 2" pipe will have exited via the first few perforations in the beginning of the neck down area so the section of pipe that's actually 2" never has more than the 2" pipe worth of exhaust gas trying to flow through it.

Basically if you add up all the cross sectional area of all the holes and the pipe it doesn't matter because you still have the same amount even if the path is more convoluted.

Red shit is perforated. Fibers are gas molecules.

See how every molecule still has a path through the cone because the ones that would otherwise be competing for space in the tip of the cone exited through earlier perforations.

but that's not how they're built
look in the ends of a bunch of mufflers next time you have a chance and see a bunch of them on the shelf

That's why I asked whether they started necking down before the perforations.

I know it's not literally a cone but I had to use a cone to make the illustration work.
