So like an idiot i bought a mid 80s 2wd ranger last night and have no idea what im doing with it or why i wanted it body looks good so was thinking of building it on the cheap into a wheeler for the GF, have diffs and lots parts laying around so can do it cheapish. that being said what are my 4x4 trans options that will bolt up the the 2.3? not against doing a divorced tcase if i can find one and just running the 2wd trans

They made 2.3 5 speed 4wd rangers. They used the M5OD-R1 trans.

There are also adapters out there to convert to SBF bell housing pattern.

Nope, looks like they are not even close.

The ran the Lima 2.3 until ~2000. You will have no problem finding a trans.

An 80s ranger is a lima based 2.3

I believe he is asking to see if he can pick up a duratec trans to use with his lima 2.3. Not that he is confused which he has.

Sbf bell housing pattern is different then 2.3... unless younare just stating there is a way to mount a ranger trans behind a sbf

I'm saying the other way around, there is an adaptor to mount a SBF trans behind a 2.3. Both Lima and Duratec.

No, its a factory bell housing. I believe they came behind some early 80s bronco 2s as well as mustang2s. 2.0 Pinto ones will also work with stepped dowel pins.

finding 4x4 2.3 trucks around here is pretty hard so was more curious about what else would bolt up as 2.9 and 4.0 trucks are every where. have done some more searching and they are not same pattern so that is not an option.

C4s are damn near unicorns so know that aint happening

what trans do the suzk people run when they swap a 2.3 in ? as i have a tracker trans and tcase laying around

its the 3speed auto from a early 90s tracker

at this point is looking like doing a 302 c6 swap is going to happen over finding a trans and tcase for the 2.3
