Project Smart Traxx version 2

Just stock xp1000 ranger 2017 4 seat. Can’t remember if those are front or rear boxes, brakes are different front to rear. Pm you my number, text is easier

You may already know this but keep a frequent check on the oil in those boxes. They eat bearing here in the south because of mud/water contamination. They don't hold all that much oil and don't seal very well.

Not the first smart car on portals. They built one on a unimog 406 running gear.

Very cool project nonetheless panzer.
That’s more of a smart carbody on a monster truck chassis:lmao::flipoff2:. This is stock running gear on portals :flipoff2:

Agree with this. Not sure what weight you would want to run, sure it will be cold when you start but I bet they heat right up.

I’m probably gonna punch a hole in them to put a breather also. Doesn’t look like they have one.

As for oil they will probably get some shell Omala s2 gx 68 in them. It’s a light weight gear oil.

I also have it in 150 but that’s a 80-90 equivalent. I have barrels of each for my crushers.

Welded in the center rings.

Put a extra set of hole to rotate the box at a 45 if needed.

Portals installed

Brakes will be more that adequate for this project.

She sits kinda high and there isn’t much clearance between the body and track. The additional .5” spacer that I’m gonna put in it to get rid of the box to track clearance issue should help this also.

Talking to my brother he and I agree I should rotate the box back 45 degrees to help lower and give it more body clearance. Walked around the shop and didn’t see any heavy wall pipe to start on the ski mounts.

Need to get some brake calipers, some more 12mm x 1.5 lug nuts and braided brake lines. I need to find a metric bubble to whatever the braided lines will have on them fitting. I’m trying not to molest this thing too much.

Also need to make a mount for the anti rotation dingus to keep the track from flipping over when we are putting all that power to the ground :lmao:.

I know it's not gonna go fast, but how concerned are you about the suspension with all that new found leverage on it?

lol I was looking at it but it’s a pretty decent sized tube. One of those we won’t worry about it till it’s time to worry about it deals :lmao:.

Honestly the way the suspension is built it is made for this type of loading. It’s basically a 4” tube bent in a u shape that goes from one side to the other :flipoff2:.

I had my brother pin it on the way home and it got up to 80 but then all the dash light started to flash so he backed off :lmao:. So realistically this thing will do 30 maybe 35. Nothing too spectacular. It’s the creature comforts that will be nice. Good heat, windshield wipers that work a defroster, shit they have trouble doing on the utvs.

Turning the box at a 45 is the ticket. Caliper will clear now lost a few inches in height. Has lots more body clearance.

Only thing now is I should make new adapter plates to attach the anti rotation dingus too.

Diggin' it. Stealing mom's car to put portals and tracks on it..
Dad says she is gonna be pissed:lmao:. He told me I’m gonna have to deal with that:flipoff2:. She has not drive in it two years so finders keepers:lmao:.

The way this year is going there won’t be any snow to try it out :mad3:. Hardly any frost in the ground. Only 4-5”. Gonna be a rough years for all the bars up north. They live and die by the amount of snow we get.

I just saw something about the plywood palace out that way, I can imagine that the majority of their business is sleds

Where would I get cv boots/clamps grease?

Thinking about popping the cv joints off the shaft so I can put them into the lathe to give my sleeve a press fit before welding it up. Who knows I might get lucky and the Polaris cv have the same internal spline as the smart car.
