Aside from the fact that it is un-Constitutional , it looks like the Senate is going full retard against someone who is no longer in office.

Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) argued on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that the impeachment against former President Donald Trump would bring national unity.

Anchor Chis Wallace asked, “Senator, do you support holding this impeachment trial, and what do you think the rules should be on the length of the trial and whether or not to call witnesses?”

Romney said, “Well, we’re certainly going to have a trial. I wish that weren’t necessary, with the president’s conduct with regard to the call to the secretary of state in Georgia as well as the incitation towards the insurrection that led to the attack on the Capital calls for a trial. If we are going to have unity in our country, I think it’s important to recognize the need for accountability, for truth, and justice. So I think there will be a trial, and I hope it goes as quickly as possible, but that’s up to the council on both sides.”

He added, “I think it’s pretty clear that over the last year or so there has been an effort to corrupt the election of the United States and it was not by President Biden, it was by President Trump and that corruption we saw with regards to the conduct in Ukraine as well as the call to Secretary of state Raffensperger as well as the in citation to insurrection. I mean, this is obviously very serious and an attack on the very foundation of our democracy, and it is something that has to be considered and resolved.”

Those shitheads don't give one single fuck about "unity" for the country. They only care about making it so Trump can't run again. They are scared shit of that guy and the steps they have taken in the last 4yrs and in recent weeks are proof of it.

I have a feeling the "war" isn't all that far away with the way things are going right now. These politicians need to be reminded that they represent us, not their buddies, back room deals and special interest groups. Conversation is NOT going to solve the problem. Bloodshed will, plain and simple.

Not for much longer, he basically got elected because he was LDS. People in Utah hate him now, he'll lose his next reelection bid for sure.

I predict a big nothing burger for the second Trump impeachment. They don't have the votes to convict in the senate. Who's ever in charge of Biden will call for them to drop it in the interest of "unity".
 
Trump shouldn't respond, send lawyers, or anything to dignify this mess. Impeachment is only for removal from office and he's already out. that said, I don't think he's interested in running again but he will be the power broker of whomever comes next. His impeachment can't disqualify Ivanka or Jr from moving into offices.
 
I agree with thinking it's unconstitutional. Congress doesn't have the power to try a private citizen, which Trump is now. Somehow I think they'll ignore that and try him anyway and let the courts settle it if there's a conviction, which I don't see happening.

Exactly. Use all the summer of terrorism footage/comments. See how quickly it gets shut down. If direct calls for violence/destruction is innocent how can anyone be guilty?
 
How can they possibly think a post office impeachment trial of a private citizen will unify the country? All this will do is further piss off everyone that voted for President Trump for a second term. It may well be enough to get everyone off the porch and make us even more divided than we are already.

Once again you go out of your way to show how fucking stupid you are. He wasimpeached for lying while under oath. If he would have said "Yes, I got suck started in the Oval Office" that would have been the end of it. He said "No" and got caught with his pants down.
