This is my old 86 1 ton with a 6" lift,35's. 3.73, 454, and turbo 400. It consistently got 15mpg driving back and forth from work. A stock 6 liter usually gets pretty good fuel mileage. Obviously, that truck is a lot heavier, but I bet it gets decent fuel mileage.

What fucking planet do you live on?

My 6.0 burb with stock pizza cutters and 6" frame hieght could barely manage 12 mpg if you drove like a grandma.

Uhm I have a 6.0/4l80e in a regular cab 2wd. 4.10 gears and does not even get close to 20. Maybe 15 on a great day but doubt that too.

Well obviously don't know much about driving a 6 liter. Only my Landcruiser which doesn't count.
I just figured if I could get that mileage out of a 454, a 6 liter should do better. But to be fair my 454 had a Quadrajet, so that's like driving a 2 barrel most of the time.

It's wierd how bad of milage the 6.0s get vs the hp they make compared to the 5.3 or even the 8.1.

right, who gives a flying fuck about gas mileage. life is too short to worry about that shit. I drive shit that is fun and makes me smile.

did you buy this damn thing yet??
Wrong member. Thought he was the one in GCC that bought a newer 2016 Chevy. He was also looking at a square body with a 6.0 in it.

We have agreed on a price. I'm arranging logistics now. There is no spare, so I'll be relying on fix-a-flat, I guess.

Looking forward to the road trip

I have owned a Chevy 6.0 before so I'm expecting threve miles per gallon

Take a good look at the tires, make sure they're pumped up. Those things like to blow the tread off from age before they every wear out, not just spring a leak.

Would suck to waste a fender before you even got home.

For sure. Those tires were designed to live on a Humvee where they never saw more than 55mph. Given their age... Take it slow and careful. Stop often to check on them. You might be able to catch the delamination before it completely throws the tread, or it'll just go all at once.

You'll most likely be fine though. 😁

It's definately repainted and the interior looks a little pieced together. The front bench doesnt match the rear. Seat belts are faded and closer match the carpet. I'm not sure if that's the way they came having a tan carpet and pilar covers.

I mean... Aren't all square bodies repainted and pieced together at this point in time? :lmao:

I just shopped around and besides some cheap random crap brand, the only thing I could find for a 16.5 is this:

So yeah, definitely plan to buy new wheels and tires sooner rather than later.

Where is it located? AKA how long of a drive to get it home?

Also, HOW MUCH MONEY??? :flipoff2:

There are still used take-offs out there:

But nowhere near as cheap as they used to be.

Truck is in Shreveport, LA and I am tentatively planning to go get it on Saturday.

A normal drive back would be 9 hours. I plan to take it slow. We'll see how long it takes.

True, though the date codes would be interesting to see. I bet those are 10+ years old and I wouldn't drive them on the highway. Ever.

Take it slow and steady, and make lots of stops along the way for inspections. Maybe map out a couple tire shops along the way in case you need to buy something.

Couple hundred miles into the trip. Hand calc says I’m getting about 13-14mpg. I’m probably optimistic

Are you trusting the odometer (probably inaccurate), or measuring distance with GPS?

Sounds about right. Who cares, it’s bad ass.

I have an 02 HD 8.1 Allison 2wd that wants a D60 in the front.

I used a GPS app to track distance and speed. The mileage seemed to settle into an average over 600+ miles of 12.5-13 mpg.

The tires didn't give me any trouble. Seller gave me an extra BFG 37-12.5-16.5 and military runflat spacer but no wheel. I would have been screwed if I had a blowout (would have had to try to find a shop to mount the wheel). I had a patch kit, a can of fix-a-flat, and hope.

I set the cruise at about 65 for almost the whole trip.

Good to hear, and glad you got the truck home without any drama.

What are the date codes on the tires? Maybe they aren't ancient...

Finally remembered to look at the date codes today when I was searching for zerk fittings.

Not good news. 2 of the tires were made in 2000, 1 was made in 2007, and 1 was made in 2008.

Guess I should be on the lookout for a bus of nuns whenever I drive this thing.
