What's new

Pikes Peak 2024

Ugh. Full on corporate sponsor takeover. :shaking:I guess it’s time to go outside and do things. :mad3:

Too many talking heads and yet no information about WTF is going on in the actual race.
Good bye...

Same bump that killed Carlin Dunne?

Crazy how dangerous the actual finish line is. The flag guy was killed about 20 years ago. And at least two bike riders have died at that spot.

Not watching
Yep. Same one. :mad3: It seems worse now.

I turned it off when they did a secment on a driver that’s a cancer survivor. I mean congrats, but a 5 minute sob story on you is not what I’m here to see. Add that with 80% footage of the announcers and sponsors and maybe 20% of the cars. I’m out.

That's how the coverage was last year :shaking:

Guess we're just spoiled by the KoH coverage.

All the little racing find ways to get the sponsor word out, but keep good coverage. KoH got better years ago. The same with Isle of Man, motoamerica, hell even pickleball and cornhole. Why the hell Pp hasn’t figured it out yet, is beyond me. :shaking: And looking at the live comments, they are loosing viewers quickly.

Lost traction. Gotta remember, it’s a road course on a mountain. It’s dusty and cold. Anything can happen

fuck pushing to the max in thos3 conditions. gamble with death

It's almost like people are tuning in for what they expect be one of the most mental hill climbs on the planet

And quickly let down.

They have the ability to get the footage now, just like KoH. They are choosing to be focused on the announcers, sponsors and drama.

Alright I'm done, as you guys were saying there's literally nothing worth watching. Every now and then we get a 5-10 second glimpse of the course, and the rest is just chatter

There is a whole lot more to the Evo story than will ever be published

The organization should never have allowed that car with that level (lack of) driver experience. The road conditions were not the problem.

A direct result of this was banning co drivers, and indirectly limiting spectators to certain areas only rather than WRC style watch from anywhere. All because of the increase insurance company scrutiny post the Evo making every social media site everywhere.

I still maintain drivers with less than 3 years experience should be limited to 350 horses or less then you get an additional 100 hp every year.

PP has a sense of danger / doom like no where else I have worked in racing - I would imagine Isle of Man is the same. Especially when the bikes still ran. Been there too many times when not all those who go up come down.

ugh. Ya we were there for 2 of them. The first one on race day that not only cast a dark cloud on the day, but a lot of the guys saw the wreck (it was after the finish line) that were already at the summit. That was a long long day.

Then the next year one passed on a practice day. Once the word spread, you have that sinking feeling. When we finally got off the mountain, we hit hooters and drank a lot and even more back at the trailer. The next mornings at roll call they call his name. You knew it was unintentional and he tried to stop the words coming out of his mouth, but there they were.

Man. Lots of memories.

Looks like Dahm had a decent run. He didn't crash and the car made it to the top. Happy for him as he took the race as seriously as he could without actually being able to run the course. I'll be watching his video when he posts it.

So, tried to watch the Indycar race at Laguna Seca and they went full Pikes Peak.
PMSNBC showed some rain delayed napcar bullshit. It's no wonder there's no new fans of motor sports because the coverage is so shit.

As someone said before in this thread, KOH coverage this year was absolutely fantastic and it was all on line for free.
It's not that hard, if Hammerking can produce greatness why can't a major network?!?

Because, just like radio, corporate knows better than you what you like.:mad3:

Pikes Peak died when they paved it
Not entirely. The road was not paved for the race. It was paved for the tourist the other 364 days of the year. New elements were added when some was paved and some still dirt. Now it being completely paved, there’s new challenges. The issue now being completely paved is mostly in the last section from the devils playground to the summit. With the road freezing and thawing everyday wreaks havoc on the road. There are dips and holes everywhere as seen on the last turn to the finish line. The cars (and bikes) are so much faster, the roads really can’t handle it. This adds a much larger risk than the dirt was and mostly the reason bikes are not allowed any more.

Corperate sponsors and lawyers have killed the race. Unless you have a factory backing or a deep pp history, you are never going to run this race.
