Pikes Peak 2024

I've been following Rob Dahm for years on his YouTube. He is taking the pretty seriously with his rotary rx7 that is all custom. I figure either the car will break in the first mile or he will launch it off the course towards the top.

Best of luck to all the competitors.

Saw that one happen from the out on the rocks at the devils playground
... thought for sure they were fubar ...
They were very lucky
Small world, I was sitting in the same spot. Thought for sure the passenger was done with how his head was coming out the window on every roll then getting swatted back in on the rocks. Must have had a good helmet.

I have a love/hate with pp. the place died with me when they eliminated motorcycles, but when you raced it, it’s in your blood and can’t be completely let go. Plus, being in the museum is kind of special too :grinpimp:

Some interesting names on that list. Looking forward to seeing how Duncan Cowper gets on this year, 3rd in class and sub 10 min as a rookie last year.

... same ...

For over forty years, I never missed a practice session

I remember hanging out with John Wells when he was building his dominant open wheel creations
... that man told it like it was, and was not shy about telling people how they were wrong
... we lost him in 2023 :frown:

I also enjoyed many of the other characters like the Unsers and many others back in the day
... my wife weasled her way into the clan, and they always had a plate or two of food for us at 16 mile on race day

Monster was always good for a laugh ... he acted like he no speaky english most of the time, but he was quite fluent, and his crewmembers were always really cool to hang with
I've got multiple pieces torn off his race cars in incidents, including the whole front splitter from where he dodged a dumbass photographer that he signed for me and it hangs on the wall out in the shop

Had a lot of in depth conversations with brilliant engineers/builders pitside over the years
... they always had time for my questions, and much of what I know came from those impromptu discussions

Solid engineering principles, backed up with plain ole common sense

I've got a shit ton of old pics I really should dig up and post here

You know my history there

In my blood for sure

Losing Carlin Dunne was the last straw that killed my enthusiasm for the race - he was the best of the best, and the first person under 10 min. Just an outstanding human.

On top of totaling the Cayman the year before, breaking a streak of 9 finishes

I miss my mates I would only ever see at the mountain, should have gone to Tech Inspection yesterday but I have zero desire (never say never) to return to the mountain.

Maybe when I am not dealing with an IMSA schedule

Ya. We had the 2 deaths the 2 years we raced. They were both tough being there and knowing the guys. Then Carlin the year we visited you guys at fan fest. It’s almost like the plague when we are there 🙁

Some damn good memories though. Can’t take that away.

I didn’t realize you were a regular there. I would think we crossed paths at some point, or maybe we did and I just don’t remember?

... probably did

shit man, I'm just a nobody ... not a good wrench, absolutely not a driver worthy of any form of competition

... just somebody who enjoyed the spectacle and the machines

That’s really early to wake up to enjoy the spectacle
