It appears as if the neighbors trailer battery went nuclear, got into all of his HVAC business parts, got through our fence, and roasted the front of our 2020 31' Shadow cruiser. I'm assuming this thing is going to scrap. The side is one piece and the inside took smoke damage.

With hunting for it's replacement and two bought and paid for trips looming, what brands are you all fairly happy with? I know they are all less than stellar build quality. This one was far from the exception but the layout was damn near perfect for the 4 of us.

The reminder that a lot of RV's are not a float charger, they are push amps until it boils all the water out of the battery and burns it down.

Wasn't on a charger is the crappy part. Thinking LiOn and 90 deg weather. Was just the little trailer brake battery.

Yeah... she gone. No question.

Did it have 2 A/C units? I'll never own another RV that doesn't. Only thing that I'd personally like is a wall between the living area and the bedroom. Probably get that with a floor plan thats got another 2 feet in length.

Just had the one A/C but even in triple digits it seemed to keep it comfortable. This model has/had a wall and a pocket door for the master.

Looking on my phone, didn't see the wall. That's cool. If the single A/C worked well, then stick with that brand. I've been in two ~30ft RVs where a single AC couldn't keep up for shit on a hot day. One fiberglass, one metal sided.

If yours would, that speaks to the build quality.

Every time I've been to TX it's been considerably higher humidity than what we have in NV, prob why our single got the job done. Dry as a popcorn fart here.

I think my issues really are with Lippert or Cruiser's specs for the frame. I think the flexing compounded all the fit and finish issues that I've had. Trim popping off, doors cracking, roof leaks, ect.

If the smoke damage isn't too bad I might be inclined to paint that side and rock it for free for a few years?
It's bad, it melted the gasket out of the window and it hotboxed the whole thing. Melted the wall covering on the inside. Not sure it would make it down the road, I could push my hand through the wall. Probably could do that pre fire too though:shaking:

New concern I hadn't thought about.... When we bought it interest rates were great again. Now they've been built back better. Do I have any ground to stand on when it comes time for them to send me a check?

My buddy had a truck burn next to his and looked not near as bad out side. Insurance adjuster said it's junk once they get cooked like that.

Could it be fixed? Sure, but these things aren't worth much effort, especially if insurance will replace it.

You buy it back for $59 or whatever the "loss" price is which on a fire damaged rv has to very cheap.

Like I said, I can't remember the details, my buddy was the type that would have done that for sure if it made sense.

I do also think you're vastly underestimatimg smoke damage. I know people who had their house torn down to studs to repair smoke damage. Or people who fought it coming back for years that didn't.

Yeah I didn't intend on fixing it just making it presentable and rocking a free RV...
Bigger concern is how'd the fiberglass siding make it.

Free RV should have some strings attached, just want to make sure the glass didn't get too hot.

Rubber can be replaced amd smoke smell is what makes it free, as long as panels don't start dropping going down the road

Does the bank get alerted?

Use the insurance check to buy the new one, keep paying current loan and pretend nothing happened

Stupid insurance probably cuts a check to the bank though

Bank would be the lien holder?

Most insurance companies do. When mine burned they called the bank for the payoff and cut me a check for the equity.

And the buyback numbers are shit anymore. Copart ended the days of getting a sweet deal on a wreck.

This

They aren't going to give someone a $100k check for a trailer they owe $97k on

Yeah I'm not looking to get rich on this at all, just want to be where I was. Whole laundry list of things I've done to it that are one off deals. How do I even start to attach a monetary value to things that came from my garage while high on Colorado coolaids?

Find out what your max coverage for belongings is, and go well over it. Plates, pans, airfryer, cookie sheets, your grandmama's Pyrex measuring cup... it all adds up. Clothes are expensive new, and depreciate little. Good thick beach towels aren't cheap. I basically made a wedding registry at bed bath and beyond, and Cabelas, and attached that to my loss sheet. $4500 or so. Even after they did their depreciation math I maxed out the $2500 max for belongings. Anything you could conceivably have in an RV for a week long trip.

Any news on this topic (repair, replace, who foots the bill, etc)?
It was deemed a total loss and was hauled off to Copart yesterday. Still remains to be seen if I will continue to deal with Country Financial (neighbor's ins.) directly or not. I've got a lot of time into this. Finding comps, making lists, calls, emails, it all takes time and is pushing me closer by the day to hiring a lawyer and/or a public appraiser. I'm growing tired of fighting for every little nickel and dime on a not at fault loss. After 3+ weeks all we've been able to agree on is how much the melted tail light on a 20 yr old Ranger was worth. Still fighting about the camper and all of its upgrades as well as its contents. Still not even a peep about the loss of use or the damage to my yard. -good times.

That’s rough! Have you reached out to your insurance company to see if they’ll do all that for you/fight with the other insurance company?

I have, and they are willing. In my previous experiences that has only ended up slightly better though. They are competing companies but still the insurance industry.
