Oxy diesel torch

you don't want it
get a propane/ng/propylene/whatever tip for your torch and burn propane
they're cheap on ebay

when you light it, hold the flame against something while you're bringing the flame up, it is a lot fiddlier to get it cranked up to full heat

while you're buying tips, get one with normal preheat and one with heavy preheat (or a small gouging tip if you can't find a heavy preheat normal cutting tip) for use as a rosebud torch replacement
the heavy preheat ones really put out some heat, gotta wear earmuffs when running them

I rarely use my torch these days. Plasma, grinder or several dry cut saws,or portaband, or even sawzall

funny because I use the absolute **** outta my torch, go through a 250cf tank every couple months

only reason to run acet is if you're welding with it
otherwise propane is what you want for heating and brazing and cutting

The downside people will tell you is that propane ruins the hoses/fittings. I haven’t had that experience but I have a cheap setup and large cheap tanks. Most of what I do is cutting so the propane saves me a lot and is way easier to get

I have an old victor cutting torch, odd thing is when I switched it to propane it likes to pop every 10 seconds or so when it has a cutting flame burning.

Didnt do that with acetylene. I am guessing it has an air leak somewhere from the propane tank to the torch tip. Letting some atmosphere in and causing it to pop.

I havent taken much time to try to fix it, works fine but it is annoying.

We are not in a 3rd world country. Id pass on that diesel cutting setup.

If I setup my torches again im switching to propane. It cuts rougher but when I use the torch its either really thick 1-4" or its a rough cut.

Iirc adjusting the regulators stops the popping. Its lean iirc when it does that if there isnt a leak.

"the popping"

if your ****'s going bang bang bang in a rhythmic way it's prolly just a bad seal somewhere where the mixed gas is getting into the cutting circuit in very low volume

or your preheat flame is way too low
when the gas velocity through the tip is lower than the flame front speed it does things

I wasn't looking at buying it, just was perusing the ads and came across it. Was new to me, so figured was worth sharing.

Only time I've tried to cut with torch in the last few years was maybe 2 years ago a wrench for a hydraulic cylinder when that 2nd ****ty Everlast plasma cutter died (this one was a warranty replacement).
And it wouldn't cut, just kept carboning up the steel. It's a fairly new regulator set, new hose, new torch. Tried different tips, so no idea.
Ive just used it a couple times since to heat stuff. With acytelene nearing $200 to fill and oxygen over $100, that's more than a ching long plasma cutter.

They do sell hoses that are propane rated. I've been tempted to use my old ones since I have multiples but I have no idea how long it takes to degade the non rated ones using propane.

I've never bought the "right" ones and haven't had trouble with the junk ones I've accumulated
same with regulators

That is why you get the hoses rated for propane .....

I've used a lot of propane and always just used the same gear except for the tips, it makes a difference. You see this in shipyards and marinas/docks all the time

I've had them get mushy over time, but since it's only like 2 psi that they run at it doesn't matter at all, if anything the ones at work which are always run with acet have a shorter lifespan since they get dry and cracked
