Over-tightening Alternator Belt (V-belt)

Are they aligned correctly? Wear on one side of belt leads me to believe there could be an alignment issue.

I snagged one of these off eBay for $500 a few months back.

It works awesome for aligning belt drives. It would be neat to see what they say on your drive.

Just had a thought after having shopped around for fun: someone with a 3d printer and cad skills can probably make a much cheaper offering for vbelts.

Yeah for sure, I'm gonna take a look at that setup closer

If I had more time and less hobbies I’d probably pick up a laser scanner and a 3d printer and see what I could come up with.

I was thing a simple round bodied laser would self align the sheave groove.
Then just a corresponding target

Thing is it needs to shoot a plane of light not just a point. That way you can align in all three directions.

To wrap this up: new crank pulley with equal diameter grooves to match the water pump with equal diameter grooves solved the problem. No more squealing, alternator charges great, truck cools fine, power steering pump turns, and AC blows cold.
