What's new

All the water is being piped to Cali to irrigate desert and wash the dirty masses. At least what is happenin in Colo.

Here Texas steals it all. Over 30 water lawsuits between Texas and New Mexico and New Mexico hasn't won a single one. I doubt the Butte will ever be more than half full again in my lifetime.

So how do you explain the '80s and '90s then and all the unsustainable farming that developed during that time in southern New Mexico? I remember seeing the Butte going over the spillway as a child and irrigating our pecan orchard exclusively through EBID. My grandfather did not have to drill a well until the 2000s. When I was a kid you would hit the water table digging post holes, now it is 20-30' down at his property.

If you look at the historical Las Cruces weather station data which has records going back to the late 1800s, Las Cruces got an average of about one less inch of rain per year a century ago. It might not sound like much to most of you, but when the average rainfall is less than 10"/year, an inch is pretty significant.

The '50s was a time of wide spread drought in NM, but it had nothing to do with the Trinity test. Here are the historical water levels at the Butte which is the largest reservoir in the state (and pretty close to the Trinity Site) for which the dam was constructed in 1911 (largest in the world at the time)

My grandmother and great grandparents were living in Socorro at the time of the Trinity test and remembered it.

Bruh. It's climate change!

Every time I go to SE NM, I'm reminded of a simple truth. The US could've picked anywhere in the free world to test that first bomb. They picked NM because they didn't think anyone would notice. I mean, all due respect to bigun, and all that. :flipoff2:
We're just special!

Watched this yesterday. Worst movie experience in years.
I guess I just don't like modern movies. There were so many retrospectives going on that I never knew what year it was. B/W vs color scenes help kinda, but really... tell a fucking story in order, please!

Too many characters - I can keep track of maybe 4 people in a movie. I am bad at names and faces.

I think I know less about the guy and the Manhattan project now than I ever did.

I give it 2 pink broccolis :nuke::nuke:

I thought the same thing, the music playing the entire time was distracting as well.

I finally watched it a few weeks ago and yes the jumping back and forth in time took a few minutes to get used too. I repair equipment on the farm that Strauss's family still owns and remind myself I need to start charging them more.

I found it easy to follow. :homer:

I must have a different expectation of movies. Doesn’t matter what I’m watching I let the story take me along for the ride. It’s rare I hate or don’t enjoy something. I thought it was a good movie but I’ve gotten used to the Tarantino mind fawk of skipping back and forth in time type layout.

If you didn’t like it. Were you expecting a documentary and instead got dramatization?

I like both dramas and documentaries.

Mostly it was the choppy playback of events and the lack of setup. It starts in an accusatorial meeting with no context - no date reference. Then it turns into a Tom Clancy novel where every 5 minutes I'm in a new time zone. Other than Oppie associating with commies, I know nothing about either meeting/inquisition that kept interrupting the story.

So to be clear it is a bad movie because you aren't intelligent enough to follow it and have the memory of joe biden? :flipoff2:

Nolan made a big deal about seeing it in Imax. Seemed like an awful "talky" movie to watch in Imax.
Agreed, I liked it, but I’ve watched it a few times with captions on. He purposely drowned out the dialog because “artist”. He also said the bw/color scenes didn’t really mean anything, again “artist”.
