A 23-year-old man was charged Tuesday, Oct. 8, with crashing a car through a garage in La Habra while intoxicated, killing a man who was standing inside.
Rumualdo Ajxup Chay was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, along with a sentencing enhancement for fleeing the scene of a vehicular manslaughter.
Chay did not enter a plea Tuesday in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana and his arraignment was rescheduled for Oct. 25 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton. Bail was set at $100,000.
Chay is accused of killing 31-year-old Francisco Chay-Garcia of La Habra on Friday by “accelerating into a garage with enough force to collide through the back wall and while a person was standing inside the garage,” according to the criminal complaint.
Further details were not immediately available. Police and prosecutors did not immediately respond to requests for more information about the crash.
One of the guys at work was friends with the guy that got pancaked.
