I ran into this in the Mid-South. If there is a threat of non-liquid water in the sky, they shut down. And to be fair, the roads in southern appalachia are totally unsuited for how the Upper Midwest abuses their roads in the snow
There can't be wide shoulders there, 25% of the residential properties would be under gravel. I give a huge amount of leeway to Southern shenanigans in the snow and cold, they're really not prepared for it and frankly it's tragic. The beginning of every winter, the local news runs the stories about people killing themselves with makeshift heaters, either burning their family up or they all die from CO. Contrary to what most people think of me and my 4chan ways, I do not celebrate their deaths. I don't expect some guy living in a literal tarpaper shack, trailer, or Sect 8 housing to have all the ins and outs of space heating down pat.
I would make the straight-up Democrat argument that the South needs more regulation vis a vis home heating safety.
