Official Part Weight Thread

What I found interesting is that there's a scale under the engine oil pan and one under the trans pan. The engine oil pan scale is reading 271lbs and the trans pan is reading 450lbs. I totally expected it to be the other way around. That tells me the the trans mount will always see way more weight than the engine mounts. I would have never guessed that was the case.

I have to break everything apart here soon, so I'll be able to get individual weights of the engine and trans.
With the way you have half the trans and the entire transfer case over hanging the scale it's throwing your measurements off a ton. You need to place the scales where the actual mounts are.

Good idea. That should be easy enough to do too.

Well played. That was a good call.

This is with wood blocks directly under the engine mounts and the trans mount.

Big difference. That's more of what I was expecting the first time.

Now if you did a scale under each mount you could see how bad the T-case loads the D side motor mount.

That would be kind of interesting to see. So stack wood until two separate scales are reading each engine mount?

I didn't put a scale under the mount at the back of the TC cause I figured that's just there for a little support and isn't carrying any weight. When I built it, the trans mount was holding all the weight. I can install the TC mount and push the bolt through the bushing with a finger.

Ok, scale under each engine mount and one under the trans mount.

Trans, red, top left, 338lbs. Passenger side engine, white, bottom right, 140lbs. Driver side engine, green, top right, 247lbs.

725lbs total, 387lbs combined engine, 338lbs on trans.

So dvr side sees 107lbs more than the pass side.

Interesting shit right there.

Can I get back to work now?:flipoff2:

we are gonna need you to actually mount this in the car and get even more detailed weights. for instance if your air cleaner will be off to one side have that mounted so we can see them few extra OZs. hahaahahha

super interesting though. thanks

That's easy. Air cleaner sits directly over the engine in an aluminum box, sealed to a functional cowl induction hood. So no extra engine weight.:flipoff2:

Just the engine. This is a GM LS3/525 crate. No alt, power steering pump, ac compressor, coil packs or brackets.
It does have the bit for the engine stand on it........................and a pair of gloves:flipoff2:

392lbs.

Ran across this photo of mine from 2019...Fully dressed Ford 4.0 OHV engine, A4LD trans and BW1354e all with fluids minus power steering and the coolant that ran out of the block when the hoses were taken off. 713lbs

650lbs seems like way too much. Is the truss absurdly heavy? The 14bolt of the same year that I weighed is 230lbs lighter than this

Axle weights do indeed seem off. I thought the Dana 60 was like 800lbs and the 10.5 was like 600. But it's been 3-4 years since I weighed them. I can try to get fully dressed axle weighs in the near future.

Rear D60/70/D80 fully dressed with drum brakes are easily moved by one dude one end at a time and two dudes can pick one up but with difficulty. No way they're over 400lb in any trim. I say closer to 3 in most versions.

Mayyyybe a dana 60 is closer to 300 than 400 but there’s no way a drum brake 80 is under 400. You must be stronger than you think.

I have two in my garage. I can pick and move them one end a time by a chain through the wheel studs and I'm not a big guy. They're Dodge D80s though so thinner wall than a Ford or GM D80.

NP435/205. More than likely has oil in both cases. Source: crane scale. 317 lbs

Those with a Vevor scale, is it capable of displaying freedom units?

I built an axle rack to get a bunch of the axles I have laying around off the floor and decided to weigh them as I was loading it up.

1972-1975 Ford low pinion Dana 44 from an early Bronco 312 Lbs

Ford 9" from the same Bronco 223 Lbs

1994 Ford Dana 60 449 Lbs. It weighed ~650 Lbs with the leafsprings, track bar, and sway bar on it; I did a nice wheel stand in my little Kioti CX2510 backing out of the storage shed uphill with it before hauling it over to the shop

2006 Dana 60U from an E350 393 Lbs  Only about 25 Lbs lighter than a 14 Bolt apparently :homer:

I got the Trail Gear 9" housings in I ordered on Black Friday. One is 3.5" diameter 3/8" wall tubing, and the other is 4" diameter 1/4" wall tubing. I had to weight them since the weights on Trail Gears website were obviously wrong.

Uncut 3.5" OD 3/8" wall housing is 98.0Lbs

Uncut 4" OD 1/4" Wall housing is 87.0 Lbs. I couldn't get the readout on the scale to show up in my picture despite my best efforts since the sun had set, so you'll just have to trust me.
