What's new

Odb1 scan tool?

I had an instructor in tech school who was a Cadillac tech in the early-mid 90s, he made us learn the 2500and the Ford NGS like it was going to be an every day thing for us in 2009-2010. I've never worked anywhere that had a functional Brick, I managed to cobble one working NGS together when I worked at the Ford dealer, otherwise never touched em.

I've forgotten just about everything about them now.
We still pull out the NGS from time to time if we can find the right card 😂

That was the issue, I had to pull 3 cases of shit out one slow day to assemble a mostly working unit. Had a Super Star II that I used more than the NGS for the rare occasion I had to do anything with EEC-IV.

I live 40+ years in the past most of the time vehicle wise but I damn sure don't work there! I own more shit with points than I ever have OBD1

I started wrenching slightly before those bricks were even a thing and remember how big a deal they were when they were first introduced. I used those alot back then. When I opened my shop in the early 2000s I went all in on a top of the line OTC Genesis scanner with the works to the tune of about 5k. A $159 HF scanner is more useful than that pos is now.
I still have an old 4000E, the predecessor of the Genisys. I've found some shit that it will do that the old brick won't. But all of the bullshit between cables, cartridges, smart adapters etc... At least the Genisys was slightly better with the smart cards.

OBD1 was evil. It worked like shit at best when it was running good and when it didn't the lack of relevant data and information made it very hard to diagnose certian drivability issues properly because the data you could get came in at slower than dial up internet speeds. When they came out with OBD2 I was a much happier tech.

Yeah. You should see the simple shit that I fuck up and the wild ass shit I do:lmao:.

I'll be 49 in September and I run circles around guys a lot younger than me on jobsites daily. Hopefully I'll still be able to say that after I recover from this stupid accident.

I've been meaning to ask, how's that going?

Slow but getting there. Cast is off my left hand and I've been going to PT for a few weeks to get everything moving and working again and so far so good.

My knee is a whole different story. I have a torn miniscus and partially torn ACL in my right knee. It took WC forever to approve an MRI for it and I finally had it done a few weeks ago and then it took forever for WC to approve the orthopedic visit for it. It's approved now and my appointment is this coming Friday. I know I'm going to need knee surgery to fix it so once that's figured out and I'm healed up I should be good to go. With the way WC drags their heels with everything I probably won't be back to work until the beginning of next year. :shaking:

I can't even begin to tell you how bored out of my mind I am at this point. :flipoff:

:shaking: it's like that here too.

My dad tore those parts of his knee in a motorcycle wreck when I was like 3 months old my mom having a broken leg made things awkward with me, so I'm told .

Anyway he had surgery then and everything is good 34 years later. He did have to wear a custom knee brace while skiing or riding motorcycles.
