Need help - Wood plank floor suspended garage

This is the floor of an old tank factory in Wisconsin. What look like pavers is all chucks of wood with the end grain sticking up.

This floor sounds a lot like a mass timber floor, which is all the rage in structural design right. Construction was just finished on the tallest mass timber building in the world in Milwaukee at 25 stories tall. It's built with all wood posts and beams. The floor system is a sandwich of wood stacked together. Think 2x10's all right next to each other like a giant header.

DRIV / Monroe factory is setup like that in MI. There is sand under that wood for a floating floor. It was designed to decrease working fatigue from standing on concrete all day

All that is fine, but nothing like the garage Breaker posted about... 2x's with an 1/8" gap, pier and beam so plenty of air underneath

Many machine shops were like that. If you drop a mold or tool it won't be damaged.
