Need a home printer. Something more robust that the crap at Walmart. But not a full on office version. I’ve been buying cheap ones and just running them until the ink runs dry because Inc is so expensive.

Decent color but not photos,

Scanner and copier functions

Will collate

Will print double sided

WiFi air printing.

Doesn’t need more than 1 tray.

I read on the Epson Eco tank but I’m wary because the epson we used to have was a POS

I got a simple hp laser but it won't automatically do even half the things you want. No color either. I've had it for 10 years or so and am only on my second toner cartridge. Still prints perfectly

I had a b&w laser (Brother?) at the shop for about 15 years. Limited output, but zero problems, toner doesn't run if wet, and cheap refills.

I've got an Epson Ecotank 3760 inkjet now. Color (and photo), scanner, $8 for a bottle of black. It was $275-something, I think at Costco.

Buy the replacement cartridges.

The ones that come with the printer are generally about 25-30% full. The replacement ones are actually full and last way longer.

That said, the wife spent about $250 on an HP color laser. It's been flawless, other than the $200 worth of toner cartridges every year or so. For reference she was running 10-14k pages a year.

It did double sided and collating if you were smart enough to check the boxes in the print menu.

Now that she closed that business, it rarely gets used. But, toner is dry so no clogged ink nozzles and I bet we get closer to 5+ years out of the cartridges.

The one place ink-jet still rules is printing high quality pictures on picture paper. Laser just doesn't do well there. Documents 100% laser though.

I’m talking about the 50 cannon or HP ones on sale. Throw away for sure

Still dumb. The cartridges in the box were only good for 100 pages maybe, and I'd get 300-500 out of the $40 replacement cartridges.

The wife went through a few when we had an ink refill place, and she could get cartridges refilled for $10. Those $50 printers would still run 10k+ pages before they got worn out.

Fuck those things. They're an insulting scam, unless you only have 50 pages to print ever. They get theirs on the backend.
"You want to print a single page of B&w? Too bad, buy a $70 magenta cartridge because we said so!"

I never had one do that. If you selected b&w in the print menu it always went through on any one of a dozen we had.

While you will never get the glossy photo from a laser, using good laser paper like Hammermill 28lb 100 bright white color copy will get you a damn good looking image from your laserjet.

I don’t care about photo quality anymore than basic multicolored pages of toy kids school

HP and EPSOn consumer are terrible. Force you to buy unnecessary ink, terrible apps or forced download programs.
Home printers are a pet peeve of mine. I only came in here to complain

I don’t know what brother is, is hulk hogan running around?

The HP i have now is like $15 a year for ink.

But it'll make Mother Theresa swear when it's being stupid and won't print.

The other day it printed 2 of the 3 pages and then seized up. I fought with it and gave up as I was about to throw it out the door.

Middle if the night it about got shot. Woke me up to it printing the last page plus like 10 more copies.

My wife has been using this one for the past few years for work. It has been pretty awesome.

Epson EcoTank ET-3760

I was sick of garbage printers too. I found one of these that needed nothing but ink on craigslist for $100. THing has been a tank other than driver updates for years now. Commercial speed and quality, home use cost. If you can find something similar on the secondary market, of course

Printer

Not how it works. You need every color to print black

Have they done away with "black" ink? It's been nearly 10 years since I've had an inkjet, but it seems there was always 3 colors and black.

I went mini office and I'll never go back.

Canyon MFC632. Bought it on Black Friday. Toner never dries out so it can sit unused for a long time, and print color without needing to buy a $60 cartridge. Scans straight to a USB drive, and I can print from any device connected to my internet.

This might work for you.
