Going to change up my TJ.
This should take around 2 months but because of my TIA stroke I have no idea how long it will take.
Hence the name My Stroke Build, Have already seen what will happen.
Like looking for the ratchet I just used and it is in my hand.
It will be quite frustrating for me, But hopefully it will help in the long run of remembering things.
Only thing I am really worried about is the being able to weld correctly for the motor and shock mounts.
And I have only built jeeps with leaf springs, I know how to do that.

Already has D60 grizzly locker /14b arb 5.38. 3 link front, 4 link rear.

Currently has 4.0, Nv3550, Np231/sye, 3.5 coils and shocks.

Going to replace with 350sbc, 700r4 and AA 4sp, fox 14"

Started last night by putting on some 245 tires for easier access and finished today taking off hood, fenders, and side armor.

That's all so far and today.
Will post more as I progress.

The transfer case, driveshaft were easy to remove.

IMG_7298.JPG

Then came the transmission. One of the upper male torx? bolts stripped so I had grind it away. Not fun.
Not sure if male torx bolt is the correct name ,But to tired to search. Fuck jeep for SAE, metric, and torx screws and bolts.
IMG_7300.JPG

Not going to lie removing the trans from the 4.0 sucked for me.
Nothing was going right and I became frustrated. When I am frustrated, My Emotional lability comes out bad.
It ended up I forgot 1 bolt on the bottom between the oil pan and trans.
Had to get help from my son, But it is out.
IMG_7295.JPG

IMG_7296.JPG

Rolled jeep outside and pressured washed and cleaned up the floor.

IMG_7307.JPG

IMG_7308.JPG

Now to strip the SBC, Which is going good. No surprises.
IMG_7310.JPG

IMG_7309.JPG

Need more cleaner so the rest will happen later.
Wednesday I am going to try to go back to my part time job 4-5hrs a day.
They found me something to do and hopefully I can do it.
So maybe until Saturday for me to work on jeep again.

Got the motor mounts off and started grinding flush.

IMG_7348.JPG

I also get to grind off all the stock link mounts.
As the ASSHOLE:homer: that put on the 3 link only cut off what was needed to install 3 link.

IMG_7350.JPG

IMG_7352.JPG

IMG_7353.JPG

Now I see the ASSHOLE :homer:did not complete the welding on the track-bar

I put the Advanced Adapters motor mount in to see how they would fit
IMG_7355.JPG

IMG_7356.JPG

I got the mount that has a saddle as it will give me something to build a skid plate off of.

IMG_7357.JPG

Still have lots of grinding to do, But I am hungry for bacon and eggs.
Going to work seems to have helped with the hand - mind coordination.
As I have not gouged the frame too bad grinding so far.

:beer::beer:

Got all the grinding done

IMG_7360.JPG

IMG_7361.JPG

After looking at this pic I guess I have more grinding to do on this side
IMG_7362.JPG

IMG_7363.JPG

Got the engine striped to just the block
Tomorrow I will clean it, If I feel good I will start to place in jeep.
I will inspect the block to see what bearings I need for the crank and cam.
Hone the cylinders new rings, hopefully I can reuse the pistons after I clean them up , If not new.
Any machining needed I will do myself at a friends shop.
Plan is new cam, lifters, pushrods, rocker arms and timing chain.
I already have some assembled Aluminum heads and will use an Offenhauser Dual-Port 360 intake,
Not sure which fuel injection to use yet as they are $$$$ and I would like to save some $

After seeing how much was involved with the advance adapters motor motor mounts I changed to Novak motor mounts.
The Novak mounts are just 1 measurement from existing holes in the frame. Got them tacked in and test fit the motor.
It was way faster than AA mounts which were making me frustrated.
At work I found I have lost something else from the TIA stroke, When I get frustrated and my emotional lability kicks in, My brain will sometimes not commutate with my hands, legs. Like my brain telling my hands to open the box and my hands say, Fuck you not right now.
Anyway pics:beer::beer:

And test fit motor
I did get the trans under the jeep, But my trans jack failed me.
I need to get new seals.

Nice looking Jeep to start with. Looks like a fun, but probably frustrating build/swap process. Good luck!

Where I am at right now on the build I am going to move the motor mounts forward 1"
and offset the mounts 1" to passenger side for clearence for the front driveshaft.
Going to get material tomorrow to do it.
After looking at the cost of rebuilding the engine myself and my lack of thinking sometimes, I decided to purchase a remanufactured SBC 350 engine.
IMG_7445.JPG

IMG_7446.JPG

Also my radiator came.
IMG_7447.JPG

IMG_7448.JPG

And going to use fast efi
IMG_7449.JPG

IMG_7451.JPG

While I am waiting for other things to get here I will put in the TCI manual/reverse valve body
IMG_7450.JPG

Took so long to post as I had another TIA stroke on 8/5 and they kept me for 3 days. I am feeling better now but I feel my thinking is worse and I have terrible short term memory now.
I put a camera in the garage to watch myself for when I misplace things I can watch the video and see where I may have put things.

Glad to see you still working on it!

Novak makes awesome radiators.

Glad you're feeling better. Take your time, progress is looking good.

Sometimes it's hard to beat a reman long block. Especially a SBC.

Going to have to put upper front link on passenger side as it interferes with the driveshaft on the driver side.
Even after shifting engine 1" to passenger side still interferes.
No biggie just have to find a bracket tall enough.
Lower link will clear a 2" driveshaft with head of bolt on inside.
IMG_7466.JPG

Here is front to back on engine.
IMG_7454.JPG

And side to side.
IMG_7459.JPG

Rear driveline is 25 deg.
Should I use a cv in the rear?
I can get a flange instead of a yoke.
IMG_7470.JPG

Have plenty of firewall clearance.

IMG_7461.JPG

IMG_7462.JPG

And radiator/fan clearance to short water pump.
IMG_7460.JPG

Harmonic balancer is over axle but it is 8" dia. and there is just over 6.5" from balancer to truss. 10.5" total front cl of crank to truss.

IMG_7463.JPG

How far the transfer case is below the frame.
I can raise it more but that will increase the rear driveshaft angle,
And I will have to do major surgery to the floor.

IMG_7468.JPG

I'm not saying it is right, but I haven't broken my rear driveshaft at about that angle.
If you already have a driveshaft that fits, I'd run it. If you don't, I'd take DannyK's solution.

Ya, definitely run a CV. That picture is at ride height so in articulation/droop the angle will be greater.

Got some more parts in to progress .
Barnes rear frenched coil over mounts
IMG_7547.JPG

Wide open design carrier bearing
I mentioned earlier that I might have to put upper link on passenger side as driveshaft would not clear upper link on driver side.
Well the TJ drives fine no bump steer, death wobble, can drive 65-70 no problem.
I do not want to change that, So with a carrier bearing I can make it work on drivers side.
IMG_7548.JPG

IMG_7555.JPG

Will give me roughly a 26" front driveshaft
IMG_7560.JPG

Tmr universal cross member, this is actually the second one as I welded the trans plate to the 2" tube completely. That made it so I could not insert the 1-3/4" tube inside the 2" tube. Now I have it just tacked.
Also I am going to use poly bushings at frame and poly bushing at transmission.
There should be no problem using both bushings, Correct?
IMG_7550.JPG

Barnes flat belly plate.
Will have to notch the front bend where trans pan is.
IMG_7549.JPG

I will most likely lower the transfer case some as I have more clearance than needed.
IMG_7554.JPG

IMG_7553.JPG

Went and spent 6hrs yesterday doing cognitive testing, No results yet of just how much of a retard I am because of the stroke or if there is anything that can be done to lessen it.
It takes me forever to do things but I will say videoing myself helps find things and I don't get frustrated :beer::beer:

Great looking build! We're happy to hear that we could help ease some frustration. Best of luck with the rest of the build, we are excited to see this one completed!
