What's new

My brown 1962 VolkswagEn

Looks like someone tried to mimic a Honda pilot from the 90s.

Nice!

I feel much better about my recent choices now.:beer:

Fer real though. Whats yer plans? You gotta VW motor laying around already or are you gonna spend monies for a new /rebuild?

You know that moment when you finally give up on an idea, and experience that pure, unadulterated relief when you finally send something off to scrap and think to yourself "God, that was a really stupid decision. What the fuck was I thinking?"

That moment is coming for you.

I traded $1200 for $86 at the scrap yard this morning and damn I feel good today!!

Youse guyz continue to make fun; some good stuff in here so far. :flipoff2:

But the darn thing meets my use case:

- cheap; doesn't need much to be a runner
- classic VW front end, transaxle, and the important parts of the stock floor pan
- short wheelbase
- structurally overbuilt
- get to use some stockpiled parts
- yes, the roll cage looks like ass but that is easily fixed

The $750 sand rail posted above is nice but won't work for me. For one thing, there is no sand or dunes here. Super lightweight and long WB. Really nice but not what I need.

So, you got your towing service to haul your scrap for you?! you could have just scooted it forward on the tow dolly more,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
That was actually plan A and I started rigging it up and then thought, F it, I pay for the service, might as well use it.

I don't have a motor. Figure I'll step into one sooner or later. Don't care if it burns oil or leaks as long as the lower end bearings are OK.

I'll DD it and use it to run around the property at the range. Texas hill country; this will be perfect. Will get gun racks, rifle scabbards, whatever.
How are you going to fit in that thing?
Well, it has plenty of headroom, so.......................
The keg is held on with chain :lmao:
That's why I bought it!!! Very german metal.
Why didn't you just put it in the bed of your truck?
Was filled with a bunch of stuff.

Killer. :flipoff2: the haters.

You gonna start working on it while you wait for a motor to fall in your lap?

Throw a build thread in the "Other Builds" forum.

I rebuilt a skidplate on one probably a decade ago that was worn through quarter inch steel from doing wheelies. Had a turbo Northstar and was unbelievably fun. Don't know why I told you that other than thinking happiness is directly related to hp in a sand rail.

So a sand rail is no good, cause no sand, but a dune buggy is good, cause...no dunes?

Your arguments do not hold up sir!:flipoff2:

Swap in a toyota 3.0 v6.:flipoff2:

Do your neurons fire more slowly up there because of the cold?

sandrails pull wheelies with more wheebase, I guess this one will do backflips being shorter and having a rollcage designed for it.
and you don't need sand for a rail. they used to run in the woods around here all the time.

What do you think the Rubicon used to be run with before trucks...?

But again...no sand, so dune buggy/sand rail is out of the question
