starting this a little late.
already into the build.

son gave me a aluminum 80% 1911 frame for father's day. i own a few store bought 1911's. my favorite handgun.

he has built a few. he gave me his steath arms jig to use.

bought the mil. spec upper and and parts kit from sarcos in easton pa. great place. use to go to it in nj, before they moved to a better gun state.

well figured yesterday was a good time to start.
the instructions are well written. the jig is easy to use. first thing is drilling the holes, easy and done.....
just like doing an ar 80%.

the cutting tool is easy to use. just follow the instuction for set up.
too about 15 minutes to cut the rail one side and another 15 to do the other side. kept using the mic. to check the depth of the cut.

got it within a 1000th on both sides.

tried the side on the frame, a tad tight.
some 220 sand paper and then some 320 and 600 lapping compound, and the slide is smooth as silk.....
will try and remember to take more pictures as i build it.

did nothing to it today, did get it read to cut the barrel seat.
put it in the jig, and set the cutter up.
the cutter rides in the slide rails.
the cutter uses a carbide cutting edge that you adjust the depth after each pass.
cut, turn knob ..repeat. you do 2.4 full rotationd to get to the correct depth.
i check the depth when i get 2.3 rotations done, ust to make sure.

well the barrel seat took about an half hour, stopped @ 2.3.5 revolution of the knob.
cleaned it up and checked the depth....shooting for .077 +-.008. was at .071, adjusted the knob to 2.4 did the last cutting. checked depth again. was at .077., clean it up with some 400 and 600 grit.
smooth as silk as well.
getting closer. Click image for larger version Name:	20200705_172300.jpg Views:	0 Size:	241.6 KB ID:	61848 Click image for larger version Name:	20200705_172836.jpg Views:	0 Size:	272.7 KB ID:	61849 Click image for larger version Name:	20200705_173427.jpg Views:	0 Size:	104.8 KB ID:	61850

today is a simple step.
the holes that were drilled need to be chamfered, the instruction say to use a 1/4 drill bit and use a drill press. the chamfer is very slight, and i could see me farking this up real quick.
i have a chamfering bit, in my stock of miscellaneous but collection. using my hand power the chamfer came out what it should be.
next will be assembly of the remaining parts.

on a scale of difficulty on this project so far, 1 being easy. 5 being hard .
i give this project :flipoff2::flipoff2:

the build went well

had to do some fitting of the barrel.

after the frame was completed
i tried installing the side with the barrel.
the barrel was binding so bad i could not run the slide or install the bushing.
so i removed the firing pin. installed an empty case in the barrel, the barrel was not locking up completely and you could see the case was not centered in the slide.
i can see some wear marks on the barrel lugs, after taking some fine measurements and watching a lot of crappy barrel fitting videos. i found people suck at making videos.

my front lug was out of spec, knew there would need to do some fitting. sarcos tells you will need too.

took down the front lung a smig, tried fitting, repeat.
got the lug into spec.
was sliding gooder but not great.
still was not fitting the bushing.
found that the hood was a smig too long.
filed down the hood, multiple times.
now the barrel locks up like it should, barrel slides so nice and tight. still have to pin on the plunger tube assembly.
will get wood grips later.
still have creokoat it.

but tomorrow i will go to range and try it out.

so if you don't hear from me tomorrow night, you will know why.

now runs awsome.
got some Wilson combat grips.
tore down gun back to bare frame.
now to duracoat it.
going to do 2 tone. keep slide and accessories black.
frame a dark greenish color.

final update
mine is completed
fun project.
will do it again in 9mm next
thanks for watching

again, awesome :smokin:

I want to do one of these in 9mm, so certainly in for the next update!

I am fully confused though trying to figure out what you mean by the jig work and stuff. Did you do this all with the benchtop drill press in the background of post #2?

here is a link for the Jig, the jig is used to cut the rails into the frame. it uses a sled like device, and carbide cutter.
the jig us also used to align the drill holes for the pins.

my son bought the jig 6 years ago nd has been used for 8 builds so far.
