In my local classifieds there is a 1990 Honda VFR750 (interceptor) that has my interest.

Bike looks clean and well looked after.
Of course it has to be in St. George area (4 or so hour one way trip).

Do we have anyone close to that area? If so I am willing to spend a few dinars to get eyes on this bike…

All of my research points out that these are sturdy well built bikes with gear driven cams meant for eating miles in relative comfort. 1990 and 1991 come well regarded online, folks out there with 100k plus on the clock.
Being a 30 plus year old bike I am sure it will have its quirks, think I am up to challenge of maintaining it / DIY fixes as needed.

Anyone on here owned one?
(And yes this might mean ATV hunt is set aside:grinpimp:)

Pyleit maybe?

How many miles on it and how much money? Good bike but nothing compared to something newer for $3500. Id say thats all the money and then a little

Edit, just saw your link

yeah, the whole "not as good as todays bikes" doesn't mean it's bad. the 70's produced some of my favorite bikes though :homer:

as for the price, as long as you can't get something 15 years newer and similar class for the same or damn near money, then i guess it is what it is and you should probably own it. but, i'd shop that pretty hard

I have a 2012 Ninja 650, quite like my “frog” as we refer to it in my circles.

2nd bike would be another toy, why I was looking for something older with carburetors etc.
As it is it would see maybe 2k a year if that, it will compete for my time with fun car and Ninja.

Lots of fuel injected bikes, tourers and otherwise available for sale. Looked at some Yamaha V stars and Kawasaki Vulcans for giggles.

Not many with gear driven cams and engine that was based on legendary RC30 race bikes - Honda was putting a lot of effort in these to hold up / overbuilding.
Largest complaints are for regulator/rectifier and folks replacing exhaust due to old one rotting out. 400k mile recorded on one of these - original block:)..

In any case I asked fellow for more photos etc.

you sound like exactly the person that should own it then

i'm tickled over the moon with my 98 kawasakhaki , but i like shaft drives and can't afford fuel injection. does everything it needs to and makes me smile when I have to turn onto the highway.

looked down and noticed I was going ~90mph on my commute today :emb: so it all still works just like it used to, even if it is missing a few bolts that were clearly just there for looks from the factory :flipoff2:

I had a 98 vfr 800. Gods that engine sounding amazing. R/R was a common problem though.

Determined sport touring wasn't my jam though and we towards an adv bike.

With 65k on the clock I’d be doing some serious haggling Edit : I think they’re neat old bikes too but you might
Look at st1300’s first they’re cheap and a lot neeet with a lot more refinement and options . Just a thought .

Sorry im late to the party!! Flew international today and had no cell service. I live in st george and will gladly test ride it for you and check out whatever you want to know, only downside is that i am gone until Saturday for work. LmK if i can help.

I had both older versions, an 84 VF700 and an 86 VFR 750. I sold the VF when it hit 30k on the odometer and the front cam started making noise. But that 750 was a screamer in its day, and reliable. Really was a great bike, probably the pinnacle of the 1980s sport bikes and set the trend for what a sport touring bike should be. That v4 sings a beautiful song and pulls pretty good for a machine of that vintage. I had some electrical issues, it had corrosion in a lot of connections and an issue with the ignition lock (someone tried to steal it) and would eat the voltage regulators every 4,000 miles.

Other than that, great bikes.

A good bike in it's day, today it might be considered more of a sport touring bike...The were camshaft wear problems on some earliers versions of this engine. I believe by 1990 it was resolved.. Performance? some talk like you need the latest rocket ships...This bike will entertain the average rider..$3500 is pricey but that's up to you

Is the seating position all that different from a super sport? Neat bike but never had one. I get cramped and uncomfortable after an hour on a naked bike. Contemplating a BMW s1000XR before I say fuck it and get a Goldwing.

Dad's got a 2000 VFR. 70,000 miles. Oil, chain, and tires. That's it. All original seals and everything. Nothing has been changed.

I don't really care for the riding position. I'm like in a mid-pushup stance. THere's leaning forward, then there's upright. VFR is right inbetween. After 20m my wrists are done for from holding my torso up.

I've got a Vstar 1100 that does everything I ask of it.
Plus the price was awesome, the wife bought it for my birthday.

Here we are headed out for a ride the day my grandson got his bike license.

interested in Boulevard C90T with bulletproofed electrics? My ex wife is selling my old bike....2008 with 40k miles. Fully dressed as a bagger. She wants about $4500 for it. It's here in AZ.

i wouldn't pay that much for something that old with that many miles. YMMV

I second the Honda st1100 or st1300 that was mentioned above. Loved mine. Sold it /upgraded to a BMW k1200rs but then moved onto a road that wasn't going to be friendly to it (3 miles unmaintained dirt). Now I'm on a BMW r1200gs that eats up the dirt road and cruises down the interstate just fine.

If that's the bike you want, then buy it.

I hate the Honda V4, was my first bike, 85 VF500 with ~5k miles. when a Honda makes you a diehard an air cooled v twin person... that design sucks.

Got a bunch of photos from the seller just earlier, bike is pretty clean.
Pyleit said he can go look at it Saturday.
