You're right, I'd bet most are operator error.

Don't they all say to never hold them while you light them? Much less while they go off :laughing:

Which they say that because they know there is a chance of malfunction.

To be clear, I'm not anti fireworks. I just don't spend my own money on them.

I've put plenty of mortors in upside down. Never had one blow up the tube. I have also never held one in my hand.

I've held one in my hand, but I placed it properly in the tube and held the tube near the top. Alcohol was involved and the last thing I can remember was my friends running towards me yelling until the firework went off.
I woke up late the next day with a horrible hangover and sore leg, upon inspection of the soreness I found a square bruise on my right leg just below my waist.

My neighbor uses every holiday as an excuse to blow off fireworks. They annoy the shit out of me.
 
Looks like someone put the mortar upside down and lit it. First charge was supposed to send it up before the big badda boom.

Sucks for the innocent casualty though.

Sooooo…. Are these the kind of tool bags. The same tools that show up at backdoor and chocolate thunder at KOH shooting off mortars and getting ran over because they stand in the obstacle while people are trying to flip over backwards on it. I kinda bailed on the CT and backdoor party’s a couple years ago but this looks REAL familiar.

Same scene every holiday weekend at Moon Rocks.

I still enjoy the drunken shenanigans and people watching at back door/ chunder.... but its pretty much my 1 time a year of excessive drinking with the boys.

A couple years ago I was at BD for the dildo thrower, several fist fights and then that guy that got his pelvis exploded while holding his daughter when a Toyota landed on him. People were firing off mortars from the canyon walls and it never occurred to me that I might get shot with one while I was locked into the canyon by several thousand bodies.
